Nightshift’s monthly guide to the best local bands bubbling under Deer Chicago

Who are they? Deer Chicago are Jonny Payne (vocals / guitar), Dan Newton (bass) and Tris Griffiths (drums). They formed late in 2009 to play a gig at Fat Lil’s in Witney and were immediately offered the chance to play at Charlbury Riverside Festival the following year, so thought it would be a good idea to stay together. The trio have continued to gig locally since, including a stint of gigs around Scotland last winter where they apparently did more snow shovelling than gig playing due to the weather.
