Aquest acte, alhora commemoratiu i de sensibilització de la comunitat educativa, s’ha realitzat a la Facultat de Comunicació Blanquerna, de la Universitat Ramon Llull, i ha tingut com a centre l’ho- menatge a totes aquelles persones que, posant en perill la pròpia vida, van ajudar a salvar-ne d’altres. Aquest acte ha estat coorganitzat pel Departament d’Ensenyament, el Memorial Democràtic de la Generalitat de Catalunya i el Grup de Treball Exili, Deportació i Holocaust, impulsat per aquestes dues institucions públiques. Aquest Grup de Treball especialitzat està format per docents de secundària i investigadors de diver- ses universitats catalanes; té com objectius prioritaris desenvolupar materials i eines didàctiques per a difondre el coneixement d’aquestes memòries i, també, l’educació en valors per tal de promoure la prevenció dels riscs que generen l’odi, el fanatisme, el racisme i els prejudicis individuals i col·lectius. Recordant les paraules d’Elie Wiesel, escriptor jueu de Romania, supervivent d’Auschwitz i premi Nobel de la Pau (1986), «sense memòria, l’ésser humà entra en una soledat de silenci i indiferència. Qui no recorda, perd la seva humanitat». Entre aquests objectius, es destaca donar a conèixer l’exili, la deportació i l’Holocaust més propers de la nostra història i comprendre com s’han conformat a Europa aquestes memòries creuades entre salvadors i salvats. Per aquest motiu, el conferenciant central de l’acte, el Sr. Serge Barba —nascut a la Maternitat d’Elna (espai de frontera i exili al sud de França), fill de republicans espanyols i membre d’associacions com Fills i filles de republicans espanyols i infants de l’exili (FFREEE) i de Descendents i Amics de la Maternitat d’Elna (DAME)—, ha estat un referent extraordinari que ens ha endinsat en el periple que van fer milers de persones i famílies fugint de la Guerra Civil, amb la qual cosa es recons- trueix, així, l’encreuament de memòries, en aquest cas convergint des de banda i banda dels Pirineus. El text de la conferència que reproduïm a continuació és d’un gran valor vital i memorial. Us convidem a llegir-la amb tot detall. Durant l’acte s’han llegit uns textos preparats per professors i alumnes, escrits en primera persona per tal de facilitar un apropament a experiències diverses i, d’alguna forma, interconnectades en l’espai i en el temps. El testimoni que recull cada lectura descriu cadascuna de les accions dutes a terme per les persones i en destaca la fraternitat vers persones properes i desconegudes en situacions límit, així com el coratge per defensar uns principis ètics i uns valors humans que podem considerar com essencials. Podeu trobar aquestes lectures a continuació. Com deia Martin Luther King, «mai no tinguis por de fer el correcte, especialment si el benestar d’una persona està en joc. Els càstigs de la societat són petits comparats amb les ferides que ens fem a la nostra ànima quan mirem cap a una altra banda». Aquest text ens permet aproximar-nos al tema focal d’aquest any adoptat per l’ONU: el salvament de vides i el coratge de protegir, incloent-hi els Justos i tots aquells que, arriscant la pròpia vida, van decidir ajudar persones que estaven en perill. QD Quaderns Didàctics Memorial Democràtic MD 8 Un altre gran defensor dels valors humans universals, Nelson Mandela, deia: «Vaig aprendre que el co- ratge no és l’absència de la por sinó el triomf sobre ella. L’home valent no és aquell que no té por sinó el que la conquereix .» Tot considerant les aportacions dels conferenciants, dels alumnes i professors, del Grup i d’aquests grans referents de la humanitat que hem esmentat, posem de manifest la tasca i la dinàmica pedagògi- ca del procés coparticipat que culmina amb aquest acte que ens aplega any rere any. De forma complementària, i incorporant les facilitats tecnològiques, l’acte es va transmetre per vídeo streaming per poder accedir al màxim nombre d’estudiants, per tal de sensibilitzar els nostres joves i estimular l’educació en valors, el respecte cap a l’altre, la comprensió i la solidaritat.

Two only partially overlapping enumerations of seven “precepts” are provided. Furthermore, additional precepts, not incorporated into either list, are mentioned. The frequently referenced “seven laws of the sons of Noah” are, therefore, misleading and, indeed, arithmetically incorrect. By my count, precisely a dozen are specified. Although I, honestly, fail to understand why individuals would self–identify with a faith which labels them as “heathen,” that is their business, not mine.     6 marzo 2019- Odoardo Focherini Odoardo Focherini è stato un dirigente d'azienda e intellettuale cattolico italiano, medaglia d'oro al merito civile della Repubblica Italiana e iscritto all'Albo dei Giusti tra le Nazioni a Yad Vashem per la sua opera a favore degli ebrei durante l'Olocausto, per la quale fu arrestato e morì nel campo di concentramento di Hersbruck in Germania. Il 10 maggio 2012 papa Benedetto XVI ha firmato il decreto che ne riconosce il martirio in odium fidei. Tale riconoscimento ha aperto la strada alla beatificazione di Focherini celebrata a Carpi il 15 giugno 2013. Odoardo Focherini aveva 37 anni quando scrisse l’ennesima lettera d’amore alla sua Maria, con la quale aveva già avuto sette bambini ed erano in attesa di un ottavo. Sandro o Sandra si sarebbe dovuto chiamare quel desideratissimo figlio se Odoardo fosse uscito vivo dalla prigione. Quella lettera fu scritta, infatti, durante la sua detenzione per aver salvato oltre cento ebrei dalla deportazione. L'11 marzo 1944 egli organizzò la fuga dal campo di concentramento di Fossoli del medico ebreo Enrico Donati con la scusa di una operazione chirurgica urgente. Giunto in ospedale, però, venne arrestato. Fu inizialmente detenuto nel carcere di San Giovanni in Monte a Bologna dal 13 marzo fino al 5 luglio e venne trasferito successivamente al campo di concentramento di Fossoli. Il 4 agosto fu trasportato al campo di Gries; da qui venne deportato nel campo di concentramento di Flossenbürg e poi nel sottocampo di Hersbruck, dove trovò la morte il 27 dicembre 1944. In questi momenti ebbe il conforto dell'amico Teresio Olivelli, il quale morirà anche lui il mese successivo per le percosse ricevute da una guardia.

    Federation News_March-April_2021 1 Federation News NEWS FROM CANADA: Sister Gabriella celebrates her 98th birthday with her favourite dessert—ice-cream cake. It was delicious! NEWS FROM CALIFORNIA Proposal to rename a University library in honor of Sr. Sara Salkahazi along with Mr. Odoardo Focherini Recently, Sr. Maribeth, our General Director was informed of the proposal to rename the main library at the St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. A committee was formed, led by alumni Timothy Bagwell, Ph.D. to open a process to rename this library for Sr. Sara Salkahazi along with Mr. Odoardo Focherini, both martyrs. An article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial section in part states that Sisters of Social Service Sister Sara Salkahazi was executed for hiding over 100 Jews in Hungary. The article also included information on Mr. Odoardo Focherini, who was an Italian Roman Catholic journalist. He gave false documents to Jews so they could escape the Nazi regime. He was sent to a concentration camp in Heisbruck where he died for an untreated leg infection. Both died on December 27, 1944 and both suffering death and subsequent martyrdom. Sr. Sara was beatified on September 17, 2006 and Mr.Focherini was beatified on June 15, 2013. It is interesting to note that both had experience as journalist. These two individuals are among those recognized in The Righteous among the Nations in Israel for risking their lives to save Jews during Federation News_March-April_2021 2 World War II. The work of the aforementioned committee of alumni is continuing in order to honor and memorialize these two martyrs.

    Le Château De Ma Mère

    16 décembre 2017 Le château de ma mère Au pied des Pyrénées, une institutrice suisse, pionnière de l'humanitaire, avait fait d'un petit château un abri et une maternité pour les réfugiées de la guerre d'Espagne, puis de la seconde guerre mondiale. Transformé en musée, il attire aujourd'hui des milliers de visiteurs achée derrière une haie de lauriers et de cyprès, la bâtisse aux tons roses se distingue à peine. Avec son architecture art nouveau et sa C coupole de verre, le château d'En Bardou surprend au milieu des champs d'artichauts et de sa-lades, posé en lisière d'Elne, un bourg des - Pyrénées-Orientales, comme s'il était resté en marge de son histoire. C'est ici qu'entre 1939 et 1944 furent mis au monde des centaines de bébés de réfugiées de la guerre d'Espagne ou de mères juives enfermées dans les camps voisins. Un épisode historique redécouvert il y a à peine dix ans et qui connaît, depuis, un rayonnement incroyable en Catalogne. Cette maternité si particulière est aujour-d'hui un musée de campagne. Quelques panneaux défraîchis détaillent son destin dans une Europe en pleine tourmente. Des photos passées tentent de raconter la vie quotidienne de la bâtisse à cette époque troublée, quand elle avait été transformée en sanctuaire par une poignée de femmes. Ici, trois berceaux avec leur linge blanc, là une - valise en carton, une pauvre couverture.
