The result is a gold yellowish white, complex nose, with wet clay and wax. Backboned and surprisingly young throughout its the mineral after taste. Tasting Notes Cherry ripe colour. Aromas like fruits blackberries, blackcurrant and plum, but also hints of chili powder as well as cedar and roasted coffee. The palate is velvety and intense, with powerful, but integrated tannins, muscled and tasting to red fruits and spices, resulting in a very elegant and interesting complexity. Very long aftertaste. At taste, the first impression is of greasiness, evolving into a feeling of tension of freshness, extending a very pleasant aftertaste. The production of this Reserva is restricted to vintages where Baga, the local grape variety of Bairrada, attain the expected high quality levels. The wine ages in barrels during 24 month. Tasting Notes Dense ruby colored wine, with violet hints. Intense and complex aroma where you can perceive notes of ripe black fruits, blackberry, bilberry, and blackcurrant, involved by spicy and clay. The palate presents a strong structure and silky tannins. Very long aftertaste. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless at controlled temperature, followed by the filling of new french oak barrels where the degradation of the malic acid took place. Aged for 14 months prior bottling. Tasting Notes Intense violet colour and bright appearance. Nose to red fruits, spices as black pepper, involved by hints of french oak toast of the barrel cooperage. Full- bodied and smooth tannins with a fresh and powerful middle palate. Very long aftertaste.     LUIS PATO (BAIRRADA, CURIA, BEIRAS REGION, CENTRAL PORTUGAL) www.luispato.com Luis Pato wines are the result of the association of two traditional families from Bairrada, the Pato family and the Melo Campos family. At the Quinta do Ribeirinho (Ribeirinho Estate) the documents reveal a wine production since the 18th Century. Its activity of wine bottling began in the 1970s. Affectionately known as the 'King of Bairrada', Luis Pato is the man who has done most to put this region on the modern winemaking map. He is one of Portugal's most controversial winemakers and is a serious player with 65 hectares in production. From 2006 his vineyards are devoted entirely to Portuguese varieties; all international varieties having uprooted. Pato's passion is the Baga grape, and he says his chalky clay soils are perfect for it. Other varieties like Touriga Nacional are grown on sandy soils, in a meticulously planned estate. Vinho Espumante Maria Gomes – Sparkling White NV CSPC# 725370 750mlx12 12.6% alc./vol. Grape Variety 90% Maria Gomes, 10% Sercialinho Winemaker Luis Pato Vineyards Grown in vineyards planted in sandy soil. Harvest Maria Gomes grape variety is one of the main white grape varieties from Bairrada. Every year, between the middle and the end of August, we pick up for sparkling wine to get high levels of acidity; the second picking is made two weeks later, to the production of the white wine. Vinification/ Fermented in separate stainless steel vats under control temperature for 15 days. The Maturation second fermentation was made in the bottle to keep the flavour of flowers and fruits from the main grape.

The second group consist of Indicação de Proveniencia Regulamentada (IPRs), and are also QWpsr. IPRs are used for DOC candidates "in training", and this level roughly corresponds to the French Vin Délimité de Qualité Superieure (VDQS) system. The final group are the Vinho Regional (VRs), which are table wines with a geographical indication under EU regulations. VRs each cover a larger area and are similar to the French Vin de pays at regional/departmental level.[1][2] The early 2000s has seen many changes in the classification and naming of Portuguese wine regions.
