Face au mur de son salon, un mur mitoyen, une femme est appuyée, tentant d'écouter à l'aide d'un stéthoscope les sons que produit un mur soumis à des vibrations... Car de l'autre côté, une boîte de nuit, venue s'installer après la fermeture d'un cinéma, la torture par les niveaux sonores émis. Comment vivre contre et avec à la fois sans y laisser sa peau ? On ne voit pas cet ennemi, on l'entend, on le ressent, son existence abstraite habite l'esprit du personnage jusqu'à le dévorer. Les chariots élévateurs embarquent des caisses avec des provisions.!Les moteurs démarrent. À la mesure que la terre s'éloigne on reste seuls avec la mer, le ciel et l'angoisse des espaces ouverts. Rui, un des marins, prépare sa cabine pour le long voyage. On sent le passage du temps dans les variations de lumière et dans les changements du paysage. Arrivés au port, Rui abandonne le navire et traverse la population créole qui s'agite dans le port de la ville, pendant que les entrepreneurs des multiples constructions en cours dans l'île déchargent leurs commandes, Rui aura quelques jours de congé avant de repartir. Le soir, la ville fourmille. L'explosion d'entreprises touristiques dans l'archipel oblige à un trafic constant de matériaux en maque pour alimenter les travaux en cours. À nouveau dans la mer, on accompagne le déplacement des marchandises qui alimentent le béton qui va bouleverser le paysage physique et humain qu'on va suivre. Avec l'avancement de l'industrie du tourisme c'est un nouveau monde qui s'installe; c'est l'empire qui s'étend. À quelques milles d'ici, dans le continent, on vide un désert de sable qui servira à ajouter au ciment qui vient encore d'un autre port. Omar, un trafiquant de drogue jadis prospère sur Tanger qui, pour éviter la prison, a préféré se retrouver interné, et ce en soudoyant un lobby de psychiatres espagnols à Ceuta (Enclave espagnole au nord du Maroc). De son hôpital psychiatrique il sombrera petit à petit dans la démence. Youssef, jeune diplômé d'une prestigieuse université américaine au Maroc, mène une vie très heureuse, aimé par sa femme et choyé par son père, richissime homme d'affaire. En pleine crise économique, Youssef découvre peu à peu la cruauté du système capitaliste qui fait sombrer son père dans une maladie incurable. En descendant dans le désert du sud pour faire valoir un héritage familial secret, il croisera la route de Said, trafiquant de clandestins dans le nord du Maroc, en cavale contre la police, qui porte un mépris total au monde qui l'entoure excepté sa mère. D'énigmes en énigmes, le destin de tous ces personnages, leurs peurs, leurs passé refoulé et leurs complexes referont petit à petit surface autour d'une grande question, celle de savoir si l'évolution des personnages est fruit de leur propre intelligence ou celle de manipulations des autres. More broadly, besides investigating and portraying the life of a tortured artist in the time of the military dictatorship, the documentary is about memory. More specifically, the film intends to discuss memory's ownership and memory's importance, where the concepts of "personal" and "historical" get mixed, for the building of the present. The difficulty of access to historical facts - through the archives and interviewed - and to personal facts - through denial of cooperation with the documentary, or the main character's difficulty in talking about his life - will be very present in the film, as the device's revealer of the documentary. Thus, the process itself becomes a character in the film, as a process of experimentation and experience of the subject and the difficulties that the film raises and questions. The lack of access - factual and emotional is also one of the primary themes of this documentary.     43e Festival International du Film de La Rochelle du 26 juin au 5 juillet 2015 LE PUZZLE DES CINÉMAS DU MONDE Une fois de plus nous revient l’impossible tâche de synthétiser une édition multiforme, tant par le nombre de films présentés que par les contextes dans lesquels ils ont été conçus. Nous ne pouvons nous résoudre à en sélectionner beaucoup moins, ce n’est pas faute d’essayer, et de toutes manières, un contexte économique plutôt inquiétant nous y contraint ; mais qu’une ou plusieurs pièces essentielles viennent à manquer au puzzle mental dont nous tentons, à l’année, de joindre les pièces irrégulières, et le Festival nous paraîtrait bancal. Finalement, ce qui rassemble tous ces films, qu’ils soient encore matériels ou virtuels (50/50), c’est nous, sélectionneuses au long cours. Nous souhaitons proposer aux spectateurs un panorama généreux de la chose filmique, cohérent, harmonieux, digne, sincère, quoique, la sincérité… Ambitieux aussi car nous aimons plus que tout les cinéastes qui prennent des risques et notre devise secrète pourrait bien être : mieux vaut un bon film raté qu’un mauvais film réussi. Et enfin, il nous plaît que les films se parlent, se rencontrent, s’éclairent les uns les autres et entrent en résonance dans l’esprit du festivalier. En 2015, nous avons procédé à un rééquilibrage géographique vers l’Asie, absente depuis plusieurs éditions de la programmation. Tout d’abord, avec le grand Hou Hsiao-hsien qui en est un digne représentant puisqu’il a tourné non seulement à Taïwan, son île natale mais aussi au Japon, à Hongkong et en Chine.
