1 March, 2018 NO MARCH MTG !!! Join us at the next club meeting, April 15, 3:00pm Landmark Ford in Tualatin. If this is the future? The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is a wild, semi-autonomous supercar! With all the Electric bubble cars being proposed for our future, this is a fun option! Read about it HERE. 2 Built between 1956 and 1961, the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was one of the most dominant sports cars of its day. Ferrari TR’s won 10 World Sports car Championship races, including victories at Le Mans, Sebring, and the Targa Florio, and claimed the title three times: 1958, 1960, and 1961. Only 34 Testa Rossas were ever made, and just five were built in 1959. One of those incredibly rare racing legends is now here at World of Speed! Through the end of March, visit World of Speed to see TR59 #0768, a gorgeous sports car with a storied legacy. #0768 scored victories at the L.A. Times Grand Prix, Nassau, the 1962 Portland Rose Cup, and more. One of its most successful drivers was Pete Lovely, who drove it to victory at Riverside, Pomona, and the Westwood 3-Hour Enduro race. Lovely’s storied career led him to be selected as the Sports Car/GT member of the Northwest Mo- torsports Hall of Fame class of 2018. To honor Lovely’s achievements and legacy, his beloved Fer- rari TR #0768 will be on display all month. Stop by the museum to check out this beautiful car for yourself! 3 SAAC NW 2018 dues. It seems GM was the last car builder in Australia, after Ford shut down their assembly plant a year earlier. Now, GM has closed their doors as well. The last Holden was built last October, 2017., so this is certainly old news, but news I had missed. So are they going to import everything from now on? You can read a bit more info HERE . Ford North America President Raj Nair Fired For 'Inappropriate Behavior' Feb 21st, Ford announced that Nair was leaving the company immediately, after a substantial in- vestigation. Nair had been with the company for 31 years, and in 2017 was named to the position of president of North American opera- tions. He had previously served as the company’s CTO, and also ran Ford’s global product development. Nair was broadly in charge of the company’s most ambitious technol- ogy efforts, like its attempt to create on-demand mobility services, and its push toward self-driving cars. 6 Saturday Night Tony June 13, 2014 · by KlemColl.com. a selection from The Klemantaski Collection The sun is warm at Palm Springs, even in the winter. And it is shining brightly on December 3, 1955 as Car- roll Shelby sits in a Scaglietti-bodied Ferrari 375 Plus owned by the mysterious Tony Parravano who is third from the left wearing a tan pit pass on his shirt. This car was a kind of special hot-rod built for Parravano who in those days was an important Ferrari customer. It had a 375MM chassis, but with Ferrari’s then most power- ful 4.9 liter V12, as fitted to the 375 Plus factory cars. Shortly after this photo was taken Shelby started the Saturday race but crashed heavily and the Ferrari was badly damaged. It was subsequently rebodied by California aluminum export Len Sutton and was sold to Frank Arciero who gave a driver named Dan Gurney his first big car starts with it in 1957. But the weekend was not all lost. With the Ferrari sidelined, Masten Gregory won the big car race with Parravano’s Maserati 300S and Ken Miles won the 1500cc race with the Scuderia Parravano Maserati 150S. Tony Parravano got the nickname of “Saturday Night Tony,” because he often would decide at the last minute to enter his cars in a race, often showing up after Saturday practice. Because of his tendency to work on his own cars, the Press also referred to him as The Man With the Golden Screwdriver. He had come to the United States from Italy in 1934. After the War he had some success in the construction business and bought his first Ferrari, a road car, taking delivery at the factory in 1952. Jack McAfee got Parravano interested in go- ing racing and Scuderia Parravano was soon seen on Tony Parravano’s cars with McAfee the first driver. Par- ravano was making good money with his business in the mid-1950s, so he bought a number of Ferrari and Maserati racing cars and at one point had the largest such stable in America. The Parravano team also had access to the best drivers, in addition to McAfee and Shelby, including the likes of Ken Miles, Masten Greg- ory, Lou Brero, Bob Drake, Skip Hudson, and Indy drivers Jimmy Bryan and Pat O’Connor. Parravano withdrew from racing after 1957. He was having various tax problems with the IRS, as well as con- flicts with one of his business partners. He was about to gain a settlement of his tax problems in April 1960 when he suddenly disappeared, never to be seen again. He was then 43 years old. Photo by Peter Coltrin ©The Klemantaski Collection 7 Editor: For fun, I went searching for info on Parravano, and look what I found on ebay. UP FOR AUCTION IS ONE EXTREMELY RARE 1963 FBI POSTER OF THE INFAMOUS FER- RARI AFICIONADO AND REPUTED MAFIA MEMBER TONY PARRAVANO . TONY PARRAVANO IS THE ONE THAT PUT FERRARI ON THE MAP.. TO SAY HIS FBI POSTER IS RARE IS TRULY AN UNDERSTATEMENT. IN THE LAST 15 YEARS WE HAVE YET TO SEE ONE COME UP FOR AUCTION. TONY PARRAVANO HAS BEEN SYNONYMOUS WITH FERRARI, RACING, SHELBY COLBY, AND THE MAFIA. THE POSTER IS IN PHENOMENAL CONDITION AS YOU CAN SEE. THERE WAS NO ONE LIKE HIM.. DONT MISS IT.. By 1957, Tony Parravano, a housing developer in the burgeoning Southern California area, faced mounting tax problems with the IRS. The Palm Springs races in April of 1957 turned out to be the last races for the Scuderia Parravano. Within two months, the IRS had stepped in and seized Parra- vano’s shop and assets, including cars. In April of 1960, Tony Parravano, one of the most colorful personalities, and a pivotal figure in early American Sports Car racing, disappeared, never to be heard from again. The IRS began liquidating the assets of Parravano, selling off his remaining racing cars. The vehi- cles seized by the Feds were all auctioned off in a Save-On supermarket parking lot. Shelby scored a number of wins at home in 1955, most often in one of the Ferraris owned by West Coast construction tycoon Tony Parravano. It was during a car-buying tour of Italy for Parravano that Shelby got his first ride in a Grand Prix car. "It was him that got Maserati to give me a Formula One," said Shelby. "I could've driven for the factory, Maserati, in '56 if I wanted to, but I couldn't stay over there. You know, I had the kids back in Texas and I couldn't stay for the whole season." 8 HOW A SHELBY FAN HELPED UNEARTH ’63 BORDINAT COBRA CON- CEPT CAR See the whole story HERE 1959 Ranger II concept pickup.
