These limited edition cars – highlighting a new “Icon” range – reinterpret the open cars that used to dominate the Mille Miglia and World Sports Car Championship. Pirelli has created a bespoke P Zero for the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2, starting with a precise requirement for the car’s development: 21-inch diameter tyres. This choice has been made for the first time in Ferrari’s history, presenting Pirelli’s engineers with the challenge of offering the usual levels of stiffness, comfort and performance that is synonymous with Ferrari, despite the record size. The front P Zero tyres also have the crucial task of faithfully conveying to the driver what the road is doing via the steering wheel, in order to maximise driving pleasure. Furthermore, the tyres had to play their part in keeping weight to a minimum on the new car. To achieve this, instead of the traditional reinforced textiles, the bead area was redesigned to maintain lateral rigidity while minimising weight: this solution has saved 1.2 kilograms.

The dates for this winter’s “AONE Pizza and a Movie” events, and the movies to be shown, are: 1. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. The Racers, a 1955 film starring Kirk Douglas, Bella Darvi, Gilbert Roland, Cesar Romero, Lee J. Cobb, and Katy Jurado. This movie is a few minutes short of two hours long and pizza will be brought in at the end of the film for an intermission. During the pizza break some excerpts from my collection of motor racing videos will be shown.† This thirty- eight minute special feature will show movies of some 1950s sport car races and some Formula One races in Europe during the fifties. 2. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Grand Prix, a 1966 film starring James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand and Toshiro Mifune-- directed by John Frankenheimer. That test-drive on the streets of Maranello marked the start of modern Ferrari history. The then-modest factory quickly grew into one of the great internationally-renowned Made in Italy icons. Now, exactly 70 years later, on March 12 2017, Ferrari launches its official celebrations for this milestone anniversary. To coincide with the official start of the celebrations and to commemorate the events of 70 years ago, Ferrari is also releasing a special video featuring a re- enactment of the first 12-cylinder to sport the Cavallino Rampante on its bonnet, the 125 S, driving through the factory gates on Via Abetone Inferiore and, in doing so, symbolically passing the baton of the Ferrari legacy to the LaFerrari Aperta. 125 S, the first Ferrari This was the first car to sport the Ferrari badge. Its 12-cylinder engine, vital to powerful performance, was designed by Gioacchino Colombo with Giuseppe Busso and Luigi Bazzi also contributing to the project. On March 12 1947, the 125 S, still an unbodied steel rolling chassis, roared to life for the first time and the great Ferrari adventure began. Roy Salvadori Salvadori was an Essex-born British racing driver of Italian descent who first came onto the Formula One scene in 1952. He raced for many teams throughout his career including Ferrari, Maserati, Cooper and Aston Martin at the infamous Le Mans 24 Hours. Salvadori started out racing with Ferrari in a two-litre Ferrari 500 F2; making his Formula One debut in the British Grand Prix. He would continue to race for Ferrari, winning the Joe Fry Memorial Trophy before moving to the Connaught team for the 1953 season and Maserati for the ‘54, ’55, ’56 seasons Born: 12th May 1922 when he drove a 250F.
