BARRY The results of a new survey undertaken by a non-profit Montreal group dedicated to supporting fathers and their families suggest that parents are finding it increasingly difficult to reconcile their available time between family, work and school, while employers are doing relatively little to help solve the dilemma. A growing concern According to Mohammed Barhone, execu- tive-director of Repère, conciliation of family, work and studies is an issue which has stirred up quite a bit of interest over the past decade, and numerous surveys have been undertaken in Quebec to find solutions. The goal of the study undertaken by Repère was to potentially identify elements which might encourage conciliation between family, work and studies. Among other things, the study’s authors hoped to shed light on how to work towards encouraging parents to fulfill their commitments to their families, raise awareness of the family/work/studies conciliation issue, while contributing to the promotion of paternal commitment. Constraints on parents The results of the survey, which were revealed during a press conference held at the Centre Communautaire Ahuntsic on March 7, suggest Yannick Fouda, a researcher who conducted the Repère survey, explains the results to community leaders during a press conference that parents of both sexes are concerned on a held at the Centre Communautaire Ahuntsic on March 7. daily basis about the time constraints placed on them as they struggle to raise children while interview with Newsfirst Multimedia. “The ness-raising campaign will be conducted by Work/family conflicts holding down a job or completing academic preoccupation is even more outstanding in the Repère, mainly among fathers who use the “Among employers we are seeing more and studies. context of the vulnerability that is often linked services of Repère, in conjunction with the more often where the conciliation of work and As a result, Repère is calling upon govern- to conflicts over separation. group’s community partners and employers family is regarded as a taboo,” she said. “For ment officials, among others, to take measures “Thus the idea came to us to conduct a in the greater Montreal region.
