About Us: The Garden State Film Festival was born in 2002 after a chance encoun- ter in a Sea Girt, New Jersey grocery store by film industry veteran Diane Raver and the well known Hollywood actor Robert Pastorelli. Mr. Pastorelli and Ms. Raver were able to bring an all encompassing event to the State of New Jersey. It premiered in 2003. Since that time, industry notables such as , Christopher Lloyd, Batman producer Michael Uslan, Austin Pendleton, Kurtwood Smith, , Clarence Clemons, Bruce Springsteen, Lainie Kazan, Diane Ladd, Laura Dern, Bebe Neuwirth, Armand Asante, and our biggest supporter as well as others have lent their support. 

2 Who We Are: Lauren Concar Sheehy – Executive Director As a content creator, Lauren has written, produced, directed & edited many award- winning television programs for Cablevision, Bloomberg TV, Brookdale TV & other media outlets. In addition, she is a senior video production specialist, avid certified editor and professional makeup artist with numerous credits to her name. Concar builds programs that make New Jersey a state where undeserved communities and diverse populations have equal access to arts programming. Lauren is the Executive Director of the Garden State Film Festival spearhead­ing all day to day decisions.

Kristen Dirato – Director of Operations KRISTEN HAS 18 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN THE TV AND FILM/VIDEO INDUSTRY. SHE CURRENTLY WORKS AS A VIDEO NEWS EDITOR FOR CBS3 PHILLY / KYW-TV. SHE HAS ALSO WORKED IN THE INDUSTRY AS AN ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, PRODUCTION MANAGER AND COORDINATOR FOR THE MUPPETS ON SESAME STREET. AFTER 10 YEARS MANAGING A TV STATION THAT BROADCAST TO OVER 30,000 HOMES LOCALLY, KRISTEN TRANSITIONED TO TEACHING TV AND VIDEO TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. SHE HAS EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE COORDINATING IN THE FILM AND VIDEO INDUSTRY WHICH IS INVALUABLE TO OUR ORGANIZATION.

Diane Raver – Founder/Treasurer Ms. Raver has enjoyed a long history in the realm of film and television production. Ms. Raver began her career in film in 1980. By 1987 she was the first woman president of a commercial production company in . She and her late husband relocated back to her native home of New Jersey in 1994, to provide a better quality of life for their three children. In 1999 the family had the opportunity to spend a year living in France outside of Nice. It was there on a visit to Cannes that the idea of the film festival was born.

Our event not only provides novice and aspiring film- makers, actors, writers, composers and others interested in careers in the film business the opportu- nity to meet and network with industry professionals in an atmosphere conducive to learning and mentoring, but a destination event like no other in New Jersey. We are happy to continue our legacy in Asbury Park as well as serve as an engine for the city’s vitality through arts, commerce and culture. It was also created to pay tribute to New Jersey’s legacy as the birthplace of the American filmmaking industry in Thomas Edison’s Menlo Park laboratories where he invented the first film cameras and projectors, to Fort Lee, where the original studios were founded.

In 2020 GSFF will present over 200 of the best current independent films from around the globe, professional panels, educational workshops, open talent casting call and other events, all showcasing a truly unique mix of culture, art & genres. Our event not only enriches our local community it brings attendees from literally all over the world.
