„How can the Idea of Active Citizenship be developed at a European level?“

The SPD (Strengthening Participative Democracy through Collaborative Learning) project group in cooperation with E.N.T.E.R. – European Network for Transfer and Exploitation of EU Project Results has the pleasure of inviting you to a conference in the framework of the Grundtvig programme.

Topic and objectives The threat against cohesion of societies caused by globalisation, modernity and individualisation is known in the most parts of Europe. Active citizenship has to be promoted and strengthened at local, regional, national and especially at European level. Citizens need to develop a common European identity to actually feel as European citizens and thus contributing to intercultural dialogue and encouraging the process of European integration.

The conference will offer participants the opportunity to discuss about how to improve active citizenship in different fields. Working place, leisure time are part of the topics as well as active citizenship especially in relation to youth and to immigrants.

The conference aims at promoting the discussion on the topic, at changing experiences and at establishing new contacts. Furthermore the conference will support the dissemination of project results that were developed within projects dealing with active citizenship funded in the framework of the Grundtvig programme.

Target groups The target group of the conference are all representatives of adult education providers as well as other institutions involved in thematic field of active citizenship or interested in the topic.

Venue The conference will take place in ATLETION, Stadion Alle 70, 8000 . (www.atletion.dk). The Atletion spectator- sports complex – a venue of sports events, conferences, concerts and many other events – is situated in the South of Aarhus City (15-minute walk from city centre) near Memorial Park and close to the beach, the Stadium lakes and the Marselisborg Palace. Working methods The conference will consist of project presentations and key note speeches in plenary sessions as well as workshops in smaller groups. The working language will be English.

How to participate The conference fee is 60 Euros per participant and includes lunch, coffee breaks and working material. The fee should be paid cash at the registration at the conference. Registration forms should be sent until Sept 5th, 2008 the latest to one of the contacts.
