We will appreciate your polite and kind feedback regarding the content of our handbook. 3 TRANSPORTATION CYCLING Cycling is one of the most popular means of transportation in Denmark. Aarhus is a cycling friendly city with special paths for cycling. When cycling, you need to take into account several basic rules. • Drive on the right hand side. • Wear a helmet. Even though it is not mandatory, your life in case of accident may depend on you wearing it. Make sure it meets all the safety requirements. • Use the cycling paths when available. You may not cycle on sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, or pedestrian areas. If there is no specific cycle path, you need to use the right side of the road. • Use hand signals when turning left, right, or stopping. For more information on the rules of how to ride a bike, check this link. Where to buy/get a bicycle in Aarhus There are bicycle shops all around town. Some of the best known are Fri BikeShop on Frederick Allé, Jensen on Vestre Ringgade or Rask Cykler on Nørre Allé. You can also find second hand bikes in all those shops. If you want to buy a second hand bike you it is a good idea to check the DBA (Danish Ebay) online portal at https://www.dba.dk or the local Facebook marketplace.     23 — VOLUME 10 2018 UNIVERSITY MUSEUMS AND COLLECTIONS JOURNAL Human remains, museum space and the ‘poetics of exhibiting’ Kali Tzortzi Abstract The paper explores the role of the design of museum space in the chal- lenges set by the display of human remains. Against the background of ‘embodied understanding’, ‘multisensory learning’ and ‘affective distance’ and of contextual case studies, it analyses the innovative spa- tial approach of the Moesgaard Museum of the University of Aarhus, which, it argues, humanizes bog bodies and renders them an integra- tive part of an experiential, embodied and sensory narrative. This allows the mapping of spatial shifts and new forms of engagement with human remains, and also demonstrates the role of university museums as spaces for innovation and experimentation. 24 — VOLUME 10 2018 UNIVERSITY MUSEUMS AND COLLECTIONS JOURNAL Introduction and research question This paper aims to explore the issue of the respectful presentation of human physical remains in contextual exhibitions by looking at the role of museum space in the challenges set by their display, with particular reference to the contribution of experimentation in the university museum environ- ment. The debate raised by the understanding that human remains “are not just another artefact” (stated by CASSMAN et al. 2007, in GIESEN 2013, 1) is extensively discussed in the literature, and increasingly explored through a range of museum practices. In terms of theoretical understanding, authors have sought to acquire an overall picture of approaches towards the care of human remains so as to better understand the challenges raised. For example, among the most recent publica- tions, O’Donnabhain and Lozada (2014) examine the global diversity of attitudes to archaeological human remains and the variety of approaches to their study and curation in different countries.

To exemplify this relationship, this research project uses a case study of the Bicycle Ring (Cykelringen) in Aarhus, Denmark. Four corners around the Bicycle Ring, with different characteristics in the Built environment, are explored further. In cities with a growing population, such as Aarhus, moBility is an important focus because the amount of travel will increase, putting a higher pressure on the existing infrastructure. In Aarhus, cycling is used as a tool to facilitate the future demand of travel and to overcome the negative externalities associated with car travel. The outcome of improved mobility and accessibility is seen as complementary to a good city life in puBlic spaces. Therefore, it is argued that cycling is a tool to facilitate people friendly environments. Recently, the City of Aarhus has implemented cycle streets around the Bicycle Ring as a solution to improve the conditions around the ring.

The data were collected through a questionnaire, conducted in the largest marginalized high-rise community in Denmark, Gellerup, which is about to undergo an extensive community renewal plan. The study showed that residents in Gellerup had access to bonding and bridging social capital inside and outside Gellerup. Nevertheless, the character of the social capital varied considerably depending on age, geographical origin and years lived in Gellerup. Young residents and people who had lived for many years in Gellerup had more social capital than their counterparts. Furthermore, residents from Arab countries had more bonding relations inside Gellerup, while residents from Northern Europe had more bonding relations outside Gellerup. The camp • The camp takes place in the winter holiday (week no 7-8) in relation to the Vinterjazz Festival in Denmark. • Teachers workshop is done 1 week prior. • Lasts 4 days. • Concerts for the students’ families on the last day. • Also small (informal) concerts with the teachers during the camp. • In 2016: Large evaluation work begun • In 2017: The Virtual Denmark-band • In 2018: local engagement with live promoters Feedback • ”It’s fun, and you can’t help but smiling when you’ve played” • ”Mom, my Obo plays jazz!” • ”I had never really played before, so I had to cross some borders in a great and harmless way” • ”You could talk about more things and you were less intimidated, because we were all girls” • ”I thought most of the camp was really great – but 1 hour lunch break was too much, because my group and I were eager to get started again… ☺” After the camp.
