7 USJLP 10th Anniversary Conference July 26 to July 29 - Kyoto; July 30 - Hiroshima/Tokyo July 31 - August 2 - Tokyo (Fellows Weekend 2009) A Message from the USJLP Executive Committee & 10th Anniversary Task Force:

This summer’s conference, which will run July 26th to August 2nd, 2009 in Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo, marks the 10th anniversary of the US-Japan Leadership Program. Fellows Weekend will run from Friday afternoon, July 31st to Saturday evening, August 1st in Tokyo.

In order to celebrate ten years of USJLP, the Foundation has offered to cover accommodation costs in Tokyo for the nights of July 31st and August 1st for Fellows who are traveling into Tokyo for the purpose of attending Fellows Weekend (Fellows plus their spouses will be covered for accommodation only. Any extra people, incidentals, or travel expenses will be the responsibility of the Fellow). For the time being the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo has set aside thirty rooms for USJLPers. Please mark your calendar and start booking air tickets (or you can take a sea trip from Seattle)!

The 10th Anniversary Taskforce Team (recently formed and looking for volunteers to help) is coordinating with the Foundation to make this Fellow’s Weekend an exciting and memorable reunion with intellectually stimulating and fun experiences. Keep a lookout for the RSVP forms which will arrive in the upcoming months.

Tentative events for Fellows:

July 26th to 31st - Plenary sessions are open to all fellows July 29th (Wed) - Post-dinner activities with Fellows/Delegates (not a USJF sponsored activity) July 31st (Fri) - 10th Anniversary official celebration dinner with distinguished guests (families welcome) at Happo-en (6:30pm-8:30pm) August 1st (Sat) - Meeting of the USJLP Executive Committee (open to all Fellows) 10th Anniversary special speakers session and discussion (keynote speaker will be announced soon); Fun and bonding (maybe sweating?) event in the afternoon; Special “onsen” experience and dinner in Tokyo (families welcome)

Depending on requests from Fellows, the 10th Anniversary Taskforce will look into arranging babysitters, organize kids-programs and/or plan optional tours/trips after Sunday, August 2nd.
