Authentic Specialized Martial Arts Training in India
Lamka Shaolin Disciple’s Union www.kungfudisciples.com Lamka Shaolin Disciples’ Union SPECIALIZED MARTIAL ARTS COURSE INFO http://www.kungfudisciples.com Introducing Authentic Specialized Martial Arts Training in India 1 Lamka Shaolin Disciple’s Union www.kungfudisciples.com BAGUA ZHANG: [12 Classes a Month] Introduction: Bagua Zhang 八卦掌 Bagua Zhang is a martial art that has existed in various forms for millennia, practiced secretly by Taoist hermits before it emerged from obscurity in the late 19th century C.E. The most famous modern proponent, Dong Hai Chuan, became the bodyguard of the Empress Dowager, and was a teacher well respected by China’s most famous masters. 1. It is characterized by fast circular footwork, agile body movements, and lightning-fast hands. It is one of the famous three Neijia (Internal) styles which also include Tai Chi Quan and Xingyi Quan. 2. It teaches the student to “Walk like a dragon, retrieve and spin like an ape, change momentum like an eagle, and be calm and steady like a waiting tiger.” The use of open palms instead of fists, and the use of “negative space” is one of the things that makes Bagua Zhang particularly good for defeating multiple opponents. 3. Bagua Zhang contains powerful strikes. But the emphasis on flow and constant change is what gives this art its versatility. The options to choose between strikes, throws, joint locks, pressure point control, and varying degrees of control, make this art useful for self-defense and for law enforcement. 4. Bagua Zhang training is very aerobic, and emphasizes stability and agility. -

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED CAMPFIRE CUT This was another timed event intended to test a contestant’s knife and its ability to function effectively as a camp knife. For example, could the contestant use his knife to make kindling for a fire? The challenge here was to produce, in thirty seconds, RIPOSTE a large quantity of splinters from a six inch 2X4. HANGING PLASTIC BOTTLE This extremely difficult test involved severing an empty 16 ounce plastic water THE 2003 BLADE SHOW bottle. The bottle was suspended in mid air by a single upholstery thread. The tricky part was cutting the bottle without breaking the thread in the process! After a long absence and much urging from our loyal customers and fans, we decided to attend the Blade show in Atlanta one more time. Here are some of the ROPE CUT high points and low points from our perspective. The final event of the day required each contestant to predict the total number of free hanging manila ropes he could sever in a single stroke. The difficult part, of course, involved living up to one’s prediction. Failure to cut the predicted number HIGH POINTS... of ropes would result in a no score. Throughout the contest, spectators were entertained and educated by the folksy, down home banter of M.C. Jerry Fisk, who did a fantastic job keeping the event on CUSTOMERS AND FANS course. -

Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.). -

Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999
Tenaga Dalam Volume 2 - August 1999 The Voice of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Governing Board - USA Branch Welcome to the August issue of Tenaga Dalam. A lot has occurred since May issue. Pendekar Sanders had a very successful seminar in Ireland with Guru Liam McDonald on May 15-16, a very large and successful seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s school on June 5-6 and he just returned from a seminar in England. The seminar at Guru Besar Jeff Davidson’s was video taped and the 2 volume set can be purchased through Raja Naga. Tape 1 consists of blakok (crane) training and Tape 2 has about 15 minutes more of blakok training followed by a very intense training session in various animal possessions including the very rare Raja Naga possession. Guru Besar Davidson and his students should be commended on their excellent portrayal of the art. Tape 1 is available to the general public, but due to the intense nature of tape 2 you must be a student. It is with great sadness that I must report that Guru William F. Birge passed away. William was a long time personal student of Pendekar Sanders and he will be missed by all of the people that he came into contact with. 1 Tribute to Guru William F. Scraps of Hope in Banda Aceh
Marjaana Jauhola Marjaana craps of Hope in Banda Aceh examines the rebuilding of the city Marjaana Jauhola of Banda Aceh in Indonesia in the aftermath of the celebrated SHelsinki-based peace mediation process, thirty years of armed conflict, and the tsunami. Offering a critical contribution to the study of post-conflict politics, the book includes 14 documentary videos Scraps of Hope reflecting individuals’ experiences on rebuilding the city and following the everyday lives of people in Banda Aceh. Scraps of Hope in Banda Aceh Banda in Hope of Scraps in Banda Aceh Marjaana Jauhola mirrors the peace-making process from the perspective of the ‘outcast’ and invisible, challenging the selective narrative and ideals of the peace as a success story. Jauhola provides Gendered Urban Politics alternative ways to reflect the peace dialogue using ethnographic and in the Aceh Peace Process film documentarist storytelling. Scraps of Hope in Banda Aceh tells a story of layered exiles and displacement, revealing hidden narratives of violence and grief while exposing struggles over gendered expectations of being good and respectable women and men. It brings to light the multiple ways of arranging lives and forming caring relationships outside the normative notions of nuclear family and home, and offers insights into the relations of power and violence that are embedded in the peace. Marjaana Jauhola is senior lecturer and head of discipline of Global Development Studies at the University of Helsinki. Her research focuses on co-creative research methodologies, urban and visual ethnography with an eye on feminisms, as well as global politics of conflict and disaster recovery in South and Southeast Asia. -

That moment when an author dots the last period to his manuscript, and then rises up from the study-chair to shake its many and bulky pages together is almost as exciting an occasion as -when he takes a quire or so of foolscap and sits down to write the first line of it. Many and mingled feelings pervade his mind, and hope and fear vie with one another and alternately overcome one another, until at length the author finds some slight relief for his feelings and a kind of excuse for his book, by writing a preface, in which he states briefly the nature and character of the work, and begs the pardon of the reader for his presumption in undertaking it. A winter in Kashmir must be experienced to be realised.
