Town of Winter Park Mission Statement - To Actively Develop as a Quality Resort Community which Reflects the Beauty of Our Natural Surroundings

OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION Sister Cities

WHEREAS: The Village of , residing in the Pasanlhamu rural municipality of in Province No. 1 of North-Eastern , located in the Khumbu subregion of , Himalayan Mountain Range, is recognized as the heart and leadership of the Sherpa culture; and

WHEREAS: The Village of Khumjung is also recognized for its expertise and support of mountaineering, trekking, and adventure tourism in the Everest Region, as well as having an overwhelming historical influence on said activities because of the temerity, fortitude and generous spirit of the Sherpa culture; and

WHEREAS: The Village of Khumjung is located at 3790 meters (12,434ft.) above sea level, thus requiring its residents to have a physical and emotional adaptability to their environment not common to the rest of the world’s population; and

WHEREAS: the residents of the Village of Khumjung have demonstrated alpine values requiring resourcefulness, conservationism, balance, hospitality, generosity and the humble grace needed to maintain the Sherpa culture while preserving unique surrounding natural resources; and

WHEREAS: The Town of Winter Park, State of Colorado, Rocky Mountain Region of the United States of America is recognized for its historical contributions to the settling of the Western United States via ranching, railroads, and mining reflected in contemporary residents’ pioneering and can-do spirit; and

WHEREAS: The Town of Winter Park, being a center for mountain sports due to its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park, the Great Continental Divide and other U.S. Forest Service lands and ranges, its relationship with Winter Park Resort and the alpine focused recreational resources associated with the Resort. As well as being an unmatched historical and ongoing influence on all alpine sports and lifestyle; and

WHEREAS: The Town of Winter Park is located at 2775 meters (9100 ft.) above sea level, thus requiring its residents have a physical and emotional adaptability to their environment not common to the rest of the world’s population; and

WHEREAS: the residents of the Town of Winter Park have demonstrated alpine values requiring resourcefulness, conservationism, balance, hospitality, generosity, and the pioneering spirit needed to preserve its unique surrounding natural resources; and

WHEREAS: that the Village of Khumjung and the Town of Winter Park, in sharing integral and common alpine values, as well as sharing a similar history of leadership, adaptability, pioneering, and conservationism unique to residing at a high altitude alpine environment on opposite sides of the world thus demonstrating that these values and traits are not limited to any particular group but are a vital part of the human spirit; and

WHEREAS: friendship among people of different countries and cultures is a great force in creating peace, tranquility, harmony and understanding; and

WHEREAS: to facilitate and maintain world peace, the cities, their elected officials, and their citizens need to collaborate internationally through continued commitment to supporting a more peaceful and prosperous future through continued people to people exchange; and

WHEREAS: these relationships include educational, economic, cultural, municipal and humanitarian assistance exchange programs that are mutually beneficial to each community; and

WHREAS: this is an opportune time for Americans, Nepalese and the World to come together and show how powerful humanity can be when we unite to promote peace, progress and prosperity for a better world. W prove THEREFORE, it is recognized this day that these two communities will go forth into the future as Sister Cities to promote and demonstrate these values to their citizens and guests, to the young and old, to each other and the world.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Town of Winter Park, Colorado, to be affixed this day of 2020.
