Municipal Solid Generation and Its Management

Garbage will be segregated at source for biodegradable, in-organic recyclables and in- organic inert material during construction (600 kg/day) (3000 persons @ 0.2 kg/day) and operational phase (24155 kg/day).

The garbage (solid waste) generated within the project site will be biodegradable, recyclables and inert material in nature. Organic portion (40%) will be treated in-house by installing mechanical composter, In-organic recyclables will be sold to the vendor and in- organic inert material will be disposed off in SLF by Project proponent in association with Patharghata Gram panchayat, as per the guideline given by SEAC/SEIAA/WBPCB for management of Patharghata Gram Panchayat solid waste.

MUNICIPAL SOLID PROPOSAL AT PROJECT SITE

Solid waste to be generated in the project = 24155 kg/day

Storage and Segregation of waste

Biodegradable solid waste generated will be segregated at site. Biodegradable part will be treated by installing mechanical composter to produce manure. Non biodegradable recycles will be sold to the vendor.

The general characteristics of solid waste generated from the complex indicate organic part as 40%, inorganic recyclables as 20% & inorganic inert material as 40%.

Volume required for Solid Waste segregation for the entire project @ 200 kg/cum = 121 cum

Considering Storage depth = 0.5 m

Area required for Solid Waste segregation for the entire project = (121/0.5) = 242 sqm

Say total segregation area = 2.0 times of 242 sqm = 484 sqm

Adding additional 20% area for movement, etc.

Total area for storage and segregation of waste = 580.8 sqm

Organic waste management

We will install package plant for converting organic solid waste to (technology approved by WBPCB) Organic waste generated = 9662kg/day

Requirement of area for composting (50 kg/day/sqm) = 193.24 sqm

Storage area for compost (50%) = 96.62sqm

Adding additional 20% area for pathway etc,

Total area requirement for organic waste composting = 193.24 + 96.62 + 20% X (193.24 + 96.62) = 347.83 sqm.

Inorganic waste management

The inorganic recyclable waste generated = 20% of 24155 kg/day = 4831 kg/day The recyclable waste will be disposed off in regular manner. Secured Landfilling

The non-recyclable inorganic (inert material) and rejects from compost unit will be transported for disposal in secured land filling site which will be operated and maintained by Patharghata Gram Panchayat in association with project authorities.

Quantity of non-recyclable inorganic and rejects from composting = 40% of 24155 kg/day+ 10% of 9662 kg/day = (9662 + 966.2) kg/day =10628.2 kg/day =10630 kg/day The inorganic inert waste transported to secured site of the Patharghata Gram Panchayat = 10630 kg/day.

Sl. No. Component Area (sqm) 1 Storage and Segregation 580.8 2 Organic waste Composting 347.83 TOTAL 928.63 SAY 930

Total inorganic Inert waste to be disposed of in secured landfill site of Patharghata Gram Panchayat = 10630 kg /day.
