Dear Mayor Ryan and Members of Council,

Thank you for providing me with a copy of the resolution passed by Town of Mono Council which supports a referendum for any changes made to our electoral system.

Myself, and the Conservative Party, agree with you whole heartedly: electoral reform should only be considered following a referendum where all Canadians may have their say; the decision should not be made by a committee of parliamentarians. Our electoral system does not belong to the government of the day, it belongs to the people.

I have taken the liberty of forwarding the notification of resolution to the Minister of Democratic Institutions, Maryam Monsef, and , Conservative Democratic Institutions Critic.

I would like to thank you for your prompt action on this important matter and for your dedication to democracy,

Dear Minister,

.I am writing you today on behalf of constituents in my riding regarding electoral reform and their . desire for a referendum to be held before any changes are made to the current system.

Recently, the Town of Mono Council passed a resolution stating, "THAT Town ofMono Council supports a referendumfor any reform ofthe voting system to be considered by the Federal Government." I have enc10seda copy of the notification I received from the Town of Mono for . your records.

It is encouraging to see that the wisdom of the voter is on full display in Dufferin-Caledon. Mr. Trudeau may have a majority government, but a majority of Canadians did not vote for his party in the last election and therefore he does not have a mandate to unilaterally change our electoral system. To have any legitimacy at all, he must take his proposed changes to the people for a final say.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. ------::::::::~\..---:'fJ 1-- Tilson, Q.C.,---- M.P. ferin-Caledon

Dear Mr. Reid,

I am writing you today to provide you with a complimentary copy of a resolution recently passed by the Town of Mono Council.

th On November 4 , 2016 I sent letters to all the town councils in my riding encouraging them to pass motions requesting that a referendum be held prior to the implementation of any proposed changes to the current first-past-the-post voting system for federal elections, like the Regional District of East Kootenay.

Recently, the Town of Mono Council passed a resolution stating, "THAT Town ofMono Council supports a referendum for any reform ofthe voting system to be considered by the Federal Government." The Town of Mono Council has sent a copy of their resolution to the Prime Minister and the Standing Committee on Electoral Reform.

It is encouraging to see that the wisdom of the voter is on full display in Dufferin-Caledon. If I receive more letters from town councils in my riding I will be sure to send them to your office.
