Included meal: Dinner Learning Opportunities: Make new friends: Ice breaker activities and games

Day 2 | The Rubins’ New York | Dec. 27, 2021 Spend the day on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, which was a vibrant multicultural community that was home to generations of Jewish families and the gateway for many arriving in the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. At the Tenement Museum, your girl will have the opportunity to learn about the immigrant experience in the early 1900s much like Rebecca’s family would have had.

Enjoy lunch at the iconic Katz’s Delicatessen. On a private tour of , hear about the history and advocacy of , the founder of Henry Street. Like Wald, Rebecca was an advocate for children, labor, and immigrant rights, especially after she saw the harsh factory conditions firsthand. Discuss how Henry Street serves its community today.

Tour the beautiful , reminiscent of the one Rebecca and her family attended. Before heading back uptown, learn about the importance of pickles and bialys as your family stops briefly at The Pickle Guys and Kossar’s bakery. The rest of the evening is yours to explore.

Included Meals: Lunch Learning Opportunities: Immigration, child labor laws, Jewish advocacy Vacations

Day 3 | Winter Wonderland | Dec. 28, 2021 Winter in New York is a magical time. Spend the morning at one of Manhattan’s iconic ice rinks as you and your girl twirl (or stumble—it is all ok!) around the ice rink, then warm up with hot cocoa.

After some free time, stroll to the American Girl Place™ New York in Rockefeller Center. The girls will have the chance to participate in a private painting class followed by a special shopping experience complete with a dedicated shopper just for your group. Each girl will get a $50 gift card to spend as she wishes.

Continue to Serendipity III to indulge in warm comfort food and signature Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.

Included Meals: Dinner Learning Opportunities: Crafting, ice skating

Day 4 | Scarves and Slippers | Dec. 29, 2021 Sewing was a skill that Rebecca and her sisters worked hard to master as it was important for girls to sew their marriage “trousseau.” Rebecca believed deeply in the Jewish principles of mitzvah—a moral obligation to help others-- and realized that she could sell her beautiful work and use the profits to help secure passage for her cousin’s family to come to America from Russia.

Today, the girls will have a chance to do something similar. At The New York Sewing Center, participate in a private sewing workshop. But this will not be an ordinary class. The scarves

created in today’s class will be donated to a local homeless shelter. Rebecca was fierce in her beliefs about child labor and immigrant rights. As you have lunch as a group, the girls will be encouraged to think about and discuss causes they feel passionately about.

This evening is a chance for you and your girl to dress up and experience one of New York’s most exciting holiday treats, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker with music by Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. In addition to Rebecca’s love for anything on the stage, the story depicts a young girl who braves danger and travels to far off lands—something that would remind Rebecca of her cousin Ana’s journey from Russia to America.

Included Meals: Lunch Learning Opportunities: Sewing, advocacy, mitzvah, ballet

Day 5 | Center Stage | Dec. 30, 2021 After your family’s night out on the town, spend the morning visiting museums, shopping, exploring or just relaxing. One of the thrills of Rebecca’s life was when she got to play a role in a film in which her cousin Max starred. In Rebecca’s time, films did not yet have dialogue, so everything had to be communicated with gesture and emotion.

This afternoon, gather at a Broadway acting studio for private acting class taught by a professional actor which will focus on pantomime (acting without words). Then board a coach for a short ride to Queens for a private after-hours experience at the Museum of the Moving Image. Go “behind the screen” on an exclusive tour with a museum educator to see how movies were made in Rebecca’s time. Your child will have a chance to see equipment from the silent film era.
