There is a separate Canadian section. Brief descriptive notes outline the interests, objectives, and responsibilities of most organizations listed. Names and addresses of officers are included. WOALIPX1111,..011 THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION The National Wildlife Federation Is a private, nonprofit organization which seeks to attain conservation goals through educational means. The Federation has affiliates in 49 states. These affiliated state orga- nizations, in turn, are composed o! more than 8,500 local clubs and their individual members. This group plus those citizens who join the Federation directly as associate members and others supporting the National Wildlife Federation total an estimated 2,250,000 persons. Among the educational efforts of NWF is the promotion Na- tional Wildlife Week; devoted-aAnually to -er-thriely conservation issue. The Week first was initiated by presidential proclamation in 1938. Through radio and television efforts, as well as distribution of printed materials, National Wildlife Week has provided a yearly reminder of the need for conservation. In 1970 the Importance of wildlife as a meas- ure of environmental quality will be stressed with the theme "Seen Any Wildlife Lately?" The Federation is a leader In conservation publishing and pro- duces the award-winning NATIONAL WILDLIFE Magazine for associate members. It has also pioneered in teaching young people a full appre- ciation of nature through the color and excitement of the natural his- tory found in the pages of RANGER RICK'S NATURE MAGAZINE, sent to all who join Ranger Rick's Nature Club. The definitive CONSERVA- TION REPORT, a unique digest of national resource legislation pub- lished weekly whan Congress is in session, is distributed free upon request. CONSERVATION NEWS, a semimonthly publication, is also issued without charge. in addition, educational booklets covering a host of conservation topics are published, and more than 400,00C are distributed free each year. NWF fellowships are made available to college and university students majoring in conservation and the associated fields of natural resource management. The Federation retains the services of nine of the nation's most distinguished conservationists and resource managers. These men serve as NWF consultants in the fields of wildlife. water, ecology, air, public lands, fisheries, forestry, recreation, and soil conservation.In these experts, the Federation has a ready source of authoritative infor- mation when resource problems arise.
