After her mother's death, she was raised only by George. Gwen's free spirit and artistic inclinations often put her at odds with the type of ethics her father worked to instill. Because of this contrast with her father, Gwen often retreats to the quiet seclusion and play drums. Over time, she developed a friendship with her close and fellow introvert Peter Parker, sharing her love for music. At Midtown High School, Gwen developed a relationship with other students, a group of girls with whom she formed a group of Mary Janes, and rebellious rich student Harry Osborn. After being bitten by a genetically engineered spider, Gwen was given arachnids as super-powers, and began a career as a crimefighter named by the media as spider-woman. She was given a suit and web-shooters set by retired crimefighter Janet van Dyne. Gwen spent most of her first adventure focused on exploiting and maintaining her newly found focus more than helping those in need; However, Gwen's behaviour changed after her father expressed that he believed Spider-Woman could easily help people. Spider-Woman's influence also caused one of the greatest tragedies of Gwen's life. Mocking Peter Parker, desperate to become special as his idol Spider-Woman, conducted an experiment that turned him into a lizard as a creature. Parker crashed the Midtown Senior Prom, and Gwen was forced to fight him. After the battle Peter returned to his human form, but died of his injuries. Without any evidence or reference to his transformation, Spider-Woman was blamed for Peter's death and branded a criminal in the media. In an effort to clear his name and prosecute Peter's death, Gwen has redouble her efforts to fight crime. In addition, Gwen's father George was commissioned to conduct an NYPD investigation into capturing spider-woman. This drew the attention of Matt Murdock - a corrupt lawyer, arm ninja leader and right hand, and the heir to the New York Crime Kingpin - who sent out Sytsevich killed George while trying to make a Spider-Woman ally. After a jamming murder attempt, Gwen found herself at gunpoint by her father, and she was forced to reveal her dual identity. She pleaded not guilty, and vowed never to rest until the perpetrators like the kingpin were stopped. Captain Stacy chose his daughter over his duty and let Spider-Woman free.- Source: Marvel.wikia.com in comics? Join the community. Get Amino in Comics? Join the community. Are they bot still teenagers now or Gwen in their 20s? 08-17-2016, 06:19 AM #2 Spider-Gwen is at 19+ while Mile is believed to have been claimed to be 16. 8, 2016, 7:39 #3 The artist was formerly known as OrpheusTelos. 08-17-2016, 7:40 #4 Miles is about 17 and Gwen is 19. 08-17-2016, 10:51 #5 During this interview, Miles is 15. Now all the evidence suggests Gwen will be at 19. But with the recent criticism that cover, according to Latour she's two years older than Miles. Make it 17. So either Latour can't follow his character's age, or everything works differently on Earth-65. 08-17-2016, 11:42 #6 originally published by Spider-Chan During this interview, Miles is 15. I think Latour is trying to cover up Bendis though it doesn't even make sense. 08-17-2016, 11:47 #7 I was under the impression that he was 17 and Gwen is 19. In any case, it's a 2-year difference. It's certainly not such a big deal. Although I admit, I'm looking forward to Kamala and Miles. Never argue with an idiot. They drag you to your level and then beat you with experience. It was always Gwen's age, which was pretty obscure. The artist used to be called OrpheusTelos. 08-17-2016, 12:58 pm #10 originally published by Spider-Chan During this interview, Miles is 15. Now all the evidence suggests Gwen will be at 19. But with the recent criticism that cover, according to Latour she's two years older than Miles. Make it 17. So either Latour can't follow his character's age, or everything works differently on Earth-65. Miles may not be 15 at this time. Before his last volume, Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man was a special issue Spider-Man #200, which indicated that he was 15 almost 16 at the time. Then at some point later his second volume mm: USM happened and then secret wars, after which 8 months of time to spend occurred. That would be Miles at 16 and possibly nearly 17 at the time. Originally posted by macattack I think Latour is trying to cover up Bendis, although it doesn't even make sense. Latour says that Gwen is 19. Recently anad avenger's it shows that Miles was born in 1999. That would make it 16/17. 11-27-2019, 04:57 pm #11 Many people say they are almost twenty. But it depends on whether you're talking about at the beginning or at the end of a comic book. Miles Morales is in high school, (mention in Spider-Verse, Why Can't I Just Go Back to Brooklyn Middle?). Later, Gwen states that she is just over a year older than Miles. This indicates that Miles is 13-14, while Gwen is 14-15 when Miles is bitten. 11-27-2019, 07:23 PM #12 Miles should be 17 at least considering his mom is going to give birth and plus I feel like he recently had a birthday party on this volume He is pure power and doesn't even know. He's the best of us. - Matt Murdock I need a reason to take the mask off. -Peter Parker 2019-27-2019, 07:26 #13 He did, he also had one during his annual. From now on, 17-18 makes sense. 11-27-2019, 07:57 pm #14 think he was 17 around the arc of spider mourning and is now 18 after the birthday issue. With Gwen I think she is at least 20 or 21. They're getting older it really quick to look like the baby is on any problem right now. 11-27-2019, 08:05 PM #15 think officially, Miles is 17 (since the start of his 616 run) and Gwen is 19 (since the beginning of her book). However, given everything that happened with the aforementioned birthday issue, and Gwen spending a full year in prison, they both have to be absolute at 18 and 20 (and this is an incredibly forgiving time). But since they want to avoid any change in time as much as possible, they just kind of stuck in this general age group. Similar to how Peter is considered in the mid-20s, though certainly (again being very conservative with time), he should be like 29 or 30. You can kind of get away with 27, but nothing less is just stretching hard. • Ownership Concentration in the U.S. Comic Book Industry
From McAllister, M.P., Sewell, Jr., E. H., & Gordon, I. (2001). Comics and Ideology. NY: Peter Lang. @2001 Peter Lang. Chapter 2 Ownership Concentration in the U.S. Comic Book Industry Matthew P. McAllister In the May 24, 1998 issue of The New York Times, there appeared a 3,200-word essay about the Marvel Entertainment Group, for years the dominant publisher in the comic book industry (Bryant, 1998). The illustration that accompanied the story was a drawing of two angry figures slugging it out in a fierce battle royale. However, this article did not appear in the entertainment section, the arts section, or even the book section. It appeared in the business section. The article was not about the hottest titles, characters or artists, but instead about stock values, junk bonds, and corporate assets. And the two figures pummeling each other were not fictional superheroes, but rather cari- catures of two Wall Street moguls, Ronald Perelman and Carl Icahn. In fact, the news article focused specifically on the dire nature of the comic book market and the struggle for control over Marvel, the industry leader, that took place between these two financial tycoons. This article joined a series of news reports from 1996 through 1998 that appeared in other business venues like The Wall Street Journal, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Financial Times of London. Such articles collectively presented a troubled image of the economic and industrial dynamics of the comic book industry in the late 1990s. This chapter will focus on these dynamics from the perspective of political economy, arguing that the comic book industry is characterized by increased conglomeration and ownership concentration.

Brief History of DC and Marvel Comics Companies: How Industry Competitors in Graphics Novels Shaped the Market | Suite101.com Brief History of DC and Marvel Comics Companies How Industry Competitors in Graphics Novels Shaped the Market Oct 14, 2008 Stephanie Cox DC and Marvel Comics, 2 leaders in the sequential art industry, each have a unique history and bring different strengths to the graphic novel/comic book market. Together Marvel DC and gobble up 80% of the comic book industry market share, with Marvel taking 35-50% and DC taking 25-30% (according to Marvel Comics’ WikiInvest). Marvel, DC Squash Independents in Sales These 2 industry giants are whom independents love to hate. Each company is largely responsible for both establishing and subsequently pigeonholing the sequential art publishing world. While many feel that the medium would have died in the 1950s were it not for these companies’ strong adaptability and longevity in America’s heart, their current dominance makes it difficult for smaller publishing companies to create a name for themselves. Marvel and DC, Establish Icons During Depression-Era America However, if Marvel and DC take the lion's share of the market today, it’s certainly due to hard work and a history of creative vitality. Both companies were started in the 1930’s, when a gloomy, Depression-ridden America certainly needed heroes. DC Comics began in 1935 under the name National Allied Publications. The new company launched Detective Comics in 1937, creating what would become the longest continuously running series in comic book history. Detective Comics became synonymous with their company and soon National Allied Publications adopted the moniker ‘DC,' a shortened version of their most successful title.
