There is a well which was used during sieges exhibited in the basement. ② Castle Gate The wooden tiled-roof of this gate tower was restored in March, 2016. Some of the tiles and earthenware found at the archaeological excavation are displayed inside. ③ Stone Wall This stone wall dated back over 400 years to when the Castle was first constructed. The stone wall uses natural stone, piling them on top of each other using a layering technique known as “Nozurazumi”. ④ Statue of Ieyasu Tokugawa The stature of the first lord of Hamamatsu Castle, Ieyasu Tokugawa. He holds a patterned fern in his right hand which is the symbol on his helmet.

The translation is based on the texts appearing in Meishôgenkôroku by Okanoya Shigezane (1835-1919), Iwanami Shoten, Tokyo, 1943. In translation, we placed family names first in the Japanese style. All the story titles and the information in the brackets and parentheses are supplied by the translators. Diacritics are deleted in popular place-names including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kanto, Honshu, Kyushu. The glossary contains main terms related to the stories. For dates and years, the Gregorian calendar is used in place of the old Japanese way of calculation, as in 1596 for the first year of Keichô. Most of the illustrations come from the Ehon Taikôki written by Takeuchi Kakusai and illustrated by Okada Gyokusan (1797-1802) but was banned in 1804. The translators, Andrew H. SHINGEN then entered IYEYASU's TOTOMI. T O K U G A W A O D A O D A This put TOKUGAWA, whose ranks were filling with the IMAGAWA SAMURAI that EDO had peopled these TOKUGAWA tracts of TOTOMI and MIKAWA, against SHINGEN's Bay push at the provincial line to KYOTO. (The same regions, or DO , that birth the H O J O NAKASENDO arts and sword-styles that are studied by sword collectors and appraisers were the TAKEDA paths that would provide the line of supply for any march on power.
