Correspondence author: [email protected] +2348038850147 ABSTRACT Hypertension is a chronic medical condition characterized by an elevated arterial blood pressure with increasing prevalence in developing countries including Nigeria. One of the integral elements in management of hypertension is adherence to medication and life- style modification. This study aimed to assess adherence level for anti -hypertensive medications among adult hypertensive patients attending public hospitals in Kano State, Nigeria. The study was a cross sectional prospective survey involving 600 pat ients from six public healthcare facilities selected by multistage sampling technique. Adherence status was assessed using Morisky medication adherence scale. Sociodemographic data and other factors that may influence adherence to hypertension medications were evaluated. Out of the 598 patients that participated in the study, only 178 (29.8%) have their BP controlled based on JNC8. Three hundred and thirty two (55.5%) out of 598 patients have good adherence, while 266 (45.5%) have poor adherence.

Thanks to the British colonial administration, a myriad of individual groups professing various faiths and belonging to different ethnicities have found themselves in a tense, unsettled and competitive political system. Unsurprisingly, there have been several attempts to undermine the profile of the state.

North East Zonal Biotechnology Center for Excellence, University of Maiduguri/University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom Abstract This study was designed to determine the seroprevalence of CMV and Rubella virus infections in pregnant women attending antenatal clinics in Maiduguri Nigeria and to identify possible risk factors associated with the transmission and spread of the two diseases using ELISA tests and a structured questionnaire. A total number of 300 blood samples from pregnant women was collected to detect IgM and IgG antibodies against the two viruses .An overall CMV and Rubella virus seroprevalence of 40% and 18.7% respectively was observed among the pregnant women in the study area. Distribution of the positive samples in the different hospitals showed CMV has 14.3 % IgG at UMTH (University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital) while Rubella virus IgG seroprevalence was 8.7% in state specialist hospital (p<0.05). Also, CMV has 2.3% IgM, 35.0% IgG and 3.0% mixed IgM and IgG antibody classes, while Rubella virus seroprevalence showed 8.3% IgM, 6.7% IgG and 3.7% mixed IgM and IgG antibody classes.

Standard cultural, biochemical and polymerase chain reaction techniques were employed to isolate and identify Salmonella enteric serovars implicated in salmonellosis. This study was carried out between June 2015 and May 2016 in some selected hospitals in North-Western Nigeria. Four hundred and twenty stool samples were collected from patients clinically diagnosed of pyrexia and/or gastroenteritis. Of the 420 samples collected, 27 were positive for Salmonella, given rise to an overall prevalence rate of 6.4%. One hundred and fifty two samples were collected from ≤1-5yrs age-group and 19 (12.5%) were positive for Salmonella species. Out of the 199 male patients recruited for this study, 16 (8.0%) had Salmonella infection while 11 (5.0%) of221female patients recruited had Salmonella infection. Sex of the patients has no significant association with the infection (p>0.05). Out of the 27 Salmonella isolated, six different serovars were encountered. S. typhi and S. enteritidis were the most frequently encountered; given rise to 25.9% prevalence rate each.
