Hockey India hosted the 35th edion of Champions Trophy in Bhubaneswar from December 6-14. While Germany was the winner, the Indian team fared well and was placed fourth in the Tournament. Players from the Indian squad were also recognised for their outstanding performance during the tournament. My congratulaons to P R Sreejesh for winning the Tata Steel Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, Akashdeep Singh for MCL Best Junior Player of the tournament, Sardar Singh for NALCO Fan's Choice and S V Sunil for Cairn India Most Energec Player awards. The team had won the Indo-Australia series in Perth earlier in November. The Indian Junior Women Hockey Team also played a six match series against New Zealand which was followed by the Senior Women team who were a tough compeon to Italy. India's Junior Men Team stood tall against Australia, Japan and New Zealand in Australia which is a great achievement. In its endeavour to produce and nurture young talent, Hockey India also recently announced the launch of its 'Online Academy Plaorm' to guide the young talent. The iniave is a comprehensive programme aimed at helping young aspirants to learn the new tricks, strategies and development in the game. Hockey India also announced the 'Hockey India Annual Awards' from the current year for the most promising and potent players from the current as well as upcoming teams. -

MANGAHAS ABSTRACT. Some digital materials which are documentary of specific forms of social transgression comprise an apparent “market niche” for piracy. “Scandals” as unique commodities in the Philippines’s informal market for pirated disks are quite distinct from other digital entertainment, being originally candid/unstaged or “stolen”/taken without their subject’s knowledge and usually made to non-professional standards/ equipment. Enterprisingly put on the market by pirate-entrepreneurs because of apparent consumer-audience interest in the content, such unique “reality” goods became conveniently available through networks of digital piracy outlets. In the context of consumption of pirated goods, the article reads “scandals” as expressive of everyday critique and resistance. The niche market for “scandals” functions as alternative media as these digital goods inherently evade government and (formal) corporate control as sources of news and entertainment. Indicators of the significance of “scandal” in the informal economy and the meaningful convergence between its piracy and consumer- audience demand are examined ethnographically: their translation into commodities through packaging, the range of sites for consumers to access “scandals,” pirate- entrepreneurs’ sales strategies and standards, and how the market behavior of these “scandals” apparently responded to the unfolding of the social scandals in real time as current events—events that themselves were influenced by the popular circulation and piracy of these commodities. Three cases that took place between 2005–2009—“Hello Garci,” the “Kat/Kho sex scandals,” and the “Maguindanao massacre” DVD—serve as diverse examples, each with their own issues of authenticity, morality, and social effects consequent to piracy and consumption. -

Españo University of Santo Tomas, Philippines [email protected] ABSTRACT The democratization of information and increased exchange of user-generated content has attracted candidates to utilize social media for their political campaigns. This phenomenon has resulted in the internet becoming an independent socio-political system with its modes of interaction, procedures, and standards for political campaigns. Furthermore, the functional theory of political campaign discourse provides a set of content and theoretical functions of these messages to describe how candidates would differentiate themselves from one another in the course of campaigning. Applied in the personality-based Philippine political setting, this study argues that dynamic access to social media, from the ends of voters and candidates, in campaigning has led to a political environment conducive to populism. As this study analyzed 548 Facebook posts of the five presidential candidates from April 9 to May 9, 2016, for the Philippine elections, it found that posts are dominated by sharing of personal activities and attacks on Duterte’s unorthodox political rhetoric. Attacks have a high propensity to go viral on social media and this virality, for any political candidate, means gaining popularity among social media users. Hence, the findings are consistent with studies claiming that virality is the most concise and effective strategy developed in an online campaign. Thus, this study found that dynamic access to social media led to a political environment conducive for populist rhetoric that helped validate experts’ explanations of Duterte’s victory as a product of the underdog effect. -

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY A. Introduction The Optical Media Board (OMB), under the direct supervision of the Office of the President, was created pursuant to Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9239, the Optical Media Act of 2003 which was approved on February 10, 2004. The Board is composed of five regular and four ex-officio members. The agency is mandated to regulate the mastering, manufacture, replication, importation and exportation of optical media in all forms. Coverage of authority is the entire territory of the Republic of the Philippines including the economic zones as defined both under R.A. Nos. 9239 and 7916. It is headed by a Chairperson who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). It has a Secretariat headed by an Executive Director who assists the Chairperson/CEO in the day-to-day operations. OMB has complement of 60 plantilla personnel and four contractual. It operates under four divisions and two units namely: Administrative and Finance Division, Legal Division, Registration and Licensing Division, Enforcement and Investigation Division, Public Information and Communication Unit and the Planning Unit. B. MAY, 2016 GLEBE DISTRICT HOCKEY CLUB THE RED RAG A Champion Club, A Club of Champions President Report I reported last year in our August Red Rag, the following: “As reported in the April Red Rag, the club has been asked to look at our current management structures/constitution. I advised then that the process was underway and I can confirm that this is still the case. We should be able to review the changes for recommendation at the final management committee meeting of the year in October, to then have as an agenda item on this year’s AGM (December). I look forward to getting this across the line.” Well, a few things got in the way of that process, but we are now working towards definitely restructuring the club’s management for consideration at this year’s AGM. There will be no real change to the operations of the club in terms of the management positions in place, rather, the primary change is the reduction in the numbers of the people that make up the management committee. At present, the club’s constitution allows for 13 people on the management committee – we will be looking to reduce that number to around 6 or 7 for better efficiencies, with those moving off the management committee, in general terms, simply reporting in to the new committee members. This is in line with other clubs and other sporting bodies and will enable our committee at its meetings to look at more significant issues rather than many of the day to day operational issues of the club which occurs now. -

Today, the country is still wanting not only in the capability to preserve its film heritage but also in the determined and sustained efforts to collect and preserve existing data on Filipino film for posterity. It does not help that the conservation of Filipino heritage, taxing and tedious as it is already, is appreciated by only a few individuals even within the industry. As an institution dedicated to the study of films, the UP Film Institute (UPFI) shall try to help in the task of gathering, classifying and disseminating data on the Filipino film. As part of its commitment to the public, the UPFI shall make these data available to everyone through the publication of a systematic and comprehensive listing of Filipino films, beginning with those produced in 2003. This year is most apropos as it was also in 2003 that the UPFI was formally established by virtue of the UP Board of Regents resolution. The UPFI realizes that such filmographies are indispensable for anyone who wants to gain an overview of the film landscape in the country and to make necessary, informed and authoritative observations on the state of the Filipino film industry. -
