60Th Anniversary Book 1959-1960 TO 2018-2019 60th Anniversary Book ENGADINE DRAGONS CRICKET CLUB 1959 – 2018 60 YEARS OF CRICKET ENGADINE DRAGONS CRICKET CLUB Inc. 2 FOREWORD This journal highlights the achievements, records and history of a suburban Cricket Club over the past 60 years. Whilst previous literature has concentrated on the following: History of the club Players and their achievements Naming of the Best Junior and Senior Teams and the 50th Anniversary Gala This edition has highlighted the volunteers and their families that have been the driving force and contributors since the inception of the Engadine Dragons Cricket Club. History and tradition has been a normal occurrence within the cricket community however in the past decade, cricket has adapted its playing conditions in line with players and community expectations and in this vain we have seen the emergence or adaption in the following areas A shorter and faster version of cricket has seen the emergence of the 20/20 game. Whilst it did not cause the same controversy as the World Series Cricket (1977), it has created further interest in cricket for players and spectators especially amongst the younger age group. Cricket Australia recommended changes in playing conditions to increase player participation in our junior ranks. Whilst it is the early stages, reduction in hours of play, bowler’s restrictions and batsman paired to a number of overs has forced changes to club and representative cricket alike. This strategy is to be reviewed overtime to see if desired player retention or player development is achieved. The wider acceptance and coverage of Women in sport at the elite level. Engadine Dragons have supported women in our junior teams, which have allowed them to follow their sporting endeavours. We are a proud and successful club that will continue to provide a platform for all to enjoy their sport and develop long-term friendships. Our successes have come in many forms and we are especially chuffed that our players continue to represent at all levels of our game. I hope that you enjoy the tales and information contained in this book. Our sincere gratitude to our Life Member Ian Latham for compiling this chapter in our history. Steve Jones Life Member 3 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS & AUTHOR’S NOTES The contents of this publication reflect the efforts of our players, coaches, managers, committee members and families that have all contributed to 60 years of Engadine Dragons Cricket. Much of the early details contained in this work were derived from the book’s “History of Engadine Dragons Cricket Club” written by Harry Robbins to celebrate the Club’s 40th Anniversary and ten years later “50 Years of Cricket” written by Russ Waddell and Ian Latham. All other information was sourced from the Engadine Dragons Cricket Club, Sutherland Shire Cricket Association and Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association Annual Reports and from other available online resources. All details are correct as of the conclusion of the 2018/19 season. I would like to thank Life Member Steve Jones for writing the foreword and Gerry Dwarshuis for proof reading this book. Finally, although I strived to faithfully record the correct details contained in this book I apologise in advance for any misspelt or incorrect names and omissions.

  • STATEMENT by CANDIDATES for the Three VACANT Members’ Representatives POSITIONS on the SACA Board of Management
SACA BOARD OF MANAGEMENT ELECTIONS 2011 STATEMENT BY CANDIDATES FOR THE THREE VACANT MEMBERS’ REPResentativeS POSITIONS ON THE SACA BOARD OF MANAGEMENT Dear Member, Dean Foster • Is without split loyalties, • Will represent the SACA Members, • Will cherish the oval, and • Will work to protect the oval cash windfall. If you are having second thoughts about sharing one of the world’s most loved cricket grounds, and a jewel in the crown of our state, with the SANFL and Melbourne-dominated AFL football, vote for me. I will represent you, the members and your rights to the oval and its facilities. I am not a member of any SACA Cricket Club, so have no club barrow to push. I have no affiliation with Australian Rules Football, although I take an interest. I thought initially that it would be a great idea to play AFL games on our city’s iconic ground. It did not take me long to see the concrete negatives far outweigh the mostly emotional positives. Many of the negatives remain latent and need to be resisted. I will strive to ensure that the $85 million windfall is spent wisely on paying off debt, building lasting facilities and making enduring changes. I will work tirelessly against spending it on bloated salaries for playing, coaching and administration mercenaries who will devalue volunteers and leave once the money is gone. The SACA would be worse off through lack of volunteers and even more reliant on sponsors and gambling, both of which will pervert it to their own ends. I am a professional engineer with facility maintenance management and project engineering experience.

BRCC v KImble CC – Home 45 over Friendly Fixture – Saturday 4th May 2019 ---------------=--------------- Junaid Celebrates New White Shoes with Winning Six Kimble Run Out of RunOuts Gilet Misses Match but Swallows a Laptop ---------------=--------------- Kimble XI 158 all out (Nearly 40 overs) BRCC XI 162-9 (Less than 45 overs) Result: Won by 1 wicket If this had been a Cherwell League Match it would have been all over after half an hour, at the moment when Gilet arrived (as a spectator: we were restricted to one Ginger per team for this match)) with our League-Issue laptop. Under certain League rules, if you have a laptop and they don’t, then you win. This could signal Gilet’s most significant role this season. By the time of Gilet’s arrival, lots of things hadn’t happened: we hadn’t made Kimble change in the portakabin, Cooperman, who lives about three quarters of a mile away as the crow flies, had not beaten Dakes to the ground (or anyone else for that matter) and Birdy hadn’t started singing. Cooperman is one of a number of players to be attacked by “Surprised the Season’s Started” Syndrome, a condition that cricketers have suffered from down the ages and which continues to this day despite the existence of Emails, Texts, WhatsApps, TeamSnap (don’t you love it) and AnyOtherKindofSnap. Ben Hillarious wondered aloud when the League Season starts, and RolfeDog wondered silently how many Emails, Texts, WhatsApps, and TeamSnaps, not to mention the Fixture Card, Ben had had to overlook, in order to ask this question.
