SACA BOARD OF MANAGEMENT ELECTIONS 2011

STATEMENT BY CANDIDATES For the three VACANT members’ representativeS POSITIONS ON the SACA Board of Management

Dear Member,

Dean Foster

• Is without split loyalties,

• Will represent the SACA Members,

• Will cherish , and

• Will work to protect the oval cash windfall.

If you are having second thoughts about sharing one of the world’s most loved grounds, and a jewel in the crown of our state, with the SANFL and Melbourne-dominated AFL football, vote for me.

I will represent you, the members and your rights to the oval and its facilities. I am not a member of any SACA Cricket Club, so have no club barrow to push. I have no affiliation with Australian Rules Football, although I take an interest. I thought initially that it would be a great idea to play AFL games on our city’s iconic ground. It did not take me long to see the concrete negatives far outweigh the mostly emotional positives. Many of the negatives remain latent and need to be resisted.

I will strive to ensure that the $85 million windfall is spent wisely on paying off debt, building lasting facilities and making enduring changes. I will work tirelessly against spending it on bloated salaries for playing, coaching and administration mercenaries who will devalue volunteers and leave once the money is gone. The SACA would be worse off through lack of volunteers and even more reliant on sponsors and gambling, both of which will pervert it to their own ends.

I am a professional engineer with facility maintenance management and project engineering experience.

Andrew Hilditch (Member since 2003) Dear Member,

With the overwhelming support for the oval redevelopment we are sure to have exciting times ahead. Combining the heritage and history of the oval with state of the art facilities will ensure the beauty is maintained along with providing necessary improvements that are vital to maintain, and indeed grow major events at the oval.

Importantly, with the debt being extinguished, and with increased resources there will be strong focus on Community, Country, Club and Junior cricket, along with talent identification and development. Being one of the smaller states, this is vital for us to be competitive and successful in what is the strongest domestic competition in the world.

The next few years promise to be challenging and with your support, I would look forward to continue being an enthusiastic voice for SACA Members interests and protecting your rights.

Sam Parkinson (Member since 1974) Dear Member

As the first female Board member in SACA’s history, I now seek your support to continue on the SACA Board of Management.

The members have voted to support the development of Adelaide Oval. The Board must now finalise the arrangements and implement this opportunity for the benefit of all South Australian Cricket while retaining the Adelaide Oval precinct as an icon for all future generations to share.

As a national membership association CEO, my skills enable me to make a valuable contribution in resolving the challenges that confront the Board now and in the future. My professional qualifications include Masters of Commerce, CPA and SPAA SMSF Specialist Advisor. I am also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

I bring to the Board professional expertise in leadership, corporate governance, membership services, risk & financial management, government advocacy and communications.

Together with these skills and knowledge is my deep affection and respect for the games of cricket and football. My involvement has increased over 26 years as my 4 sons played junior through to senior cricket and I have acted as a player’s agent for first class cricketers. I was born and raised in rural South Australia and have an understanding of the challenges facing country cricket.

I am privileged to serve as a Board member and I look forward to continuing that role in serving your interests as SACA members.
