GIVING OPPORTUNITY Individual Sport Support Did you know you can make a direct impact on any one of UCLA’s 25 Intercollegiate Athletic Teams? UCLA's success is a direct byproduct of the support and encouragement from you, the Bruin Family, who recognize the value of athletics as part of the total student-athlete experience. You can help our student-athletes realize their dreams and enhance their experience as a Bruin by making a charitable donation directly to the sport(s) of your choice. All contributions directly enhance areas including: • Academic Services • Recruiting • Dining and Nutrition • Facility, equipment and video upgrades Please Note: Benefits for donations to individual sports vary based upon the sport and do not include priority seating or parking opportunities for Football or Men’s Basketball. In recognition of gifts of $25,000 or more to a single sport, donors are offered non-seating Wooden Athletic Fund benefits in addition to the benefits provided by that sport.

DID YOU KNOW? UCLA Student-Athletes Are Not Only Successful in Competition, But Also in the Classroom While UCLA Athletics is known for its 110 National Championships, its greatest achievements lie in the academic success of its student-athletes. As a Wooden Athletic Fund donor and supporter of UCLA Athletics, your generosity supports both the academic and athletic role of our competing Bruins. • 2013 NCAA Graduation Success Rate Report – UCLA’s student-athlete graduation rate is 87%, with 5 teams at a perfect 100% (men’s tennis, women’s basketball, softball, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s water polo) and half of the teams above 90%. • Academic Eligibility – At any given time, more than 98% of our student athletics are academically eligible and have a cumulative grade point average above 2.0. This exceeds the overall University averages of 93-95% each quarter. • Academic & Student Services Programs – Each week UCLA Athletics’ Academic and Student Services Program facilitates approximately 125 academic mentoring sessions, 40 learning specialist sessions and 325 tutorial sessions in over 100 unique courses in 38 subject areas. This level of academic and athletic success has been attainable because UCLA has been able to recruit uncommon student-athletes, individuals who are internally motivated to embrace the challenges that come with being an elite student and athlete. Thanks to your continued support, UCLA Athletics is able to provide unparalleled academic and student support services to assist our student-athletes in achieving their academic and personal goals. MEET A MEMBER OF YOUR UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT TEAM Gina Garrett Director of Special Events Start Date with UCLA Athletics Development: I began working at UCLA when I started school in 1984 and never left – Department of Performing Arts, The Central Ticket Office and Athletics Development. UCLA is a vital and exciting environment and I love working here. I cannot imagine working anywhere else. Favorite UCLA Memory / Experience: Being in the pit at the 1992 MTV Awards in Pauley Pavilion. , Nirvana, Axl Rose, Red Hot Chili Peppers performed and I caught one of the drumsticks thrown into the crowd by drummer Chad Smith… nearly lost an eye, but worth it. I also remember getting in line with the Rally Committee to get the floor seats for basketball games. I made and kept many friends from this era of my life. Favorite Professional Sports Team: Green Bay Packers in honor of my late friend, Kevin Jeske, the biggest Green Bay Fan there ever was...the greatest friend I ever had. We started working on the same day at UCLA. Favorite Westwood Restaurant: Feast From the East! Slightly past the Westwood borders, but worth it for the Chinese Chicken (or Tofu) Salad and Sesame Chicken! They are also great Bruins so I feel like we should support our Bruin vendors. Favorite Quote: Too many to pick from. He went beyond his quotes and really lived what he preached – that is hard to do in today’s world. Coach is simply one of my favorite people I’ve ever met in my life. He is the real deal. Unique Fact About Yourself: I am a bonafide oenophile who houses over 60 bottles of wine, and I open a bottle of red to enjoy while watching Game of Thrones. Message to Our Donors: Everyone counts and everything counts. UCLA Athletics pursues one endeavor after another and always dominates the field of collegiate athletics. That does not happen without commitment and dedication from many different groups. We concentrate on our donor base so that we can continue this legacy of excellence for UCLA.

SUPPORT UCLA’S NEWEST SPORT UCLA Sand Already a popular sport on the world stage, Sand Volleyball is an emerging sport in the NCAA and is growing rapidly across the nation. UCLA had a very successful inaugural Sand Volleyball season in the Spring of 2013 with two pairs competing at the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships, and one player named AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball All-American. UCLA has a great volleyball history with several players from the indoor teams continuing on to very successful Sand Volleyball careers as professional athletes. UCLA has more Sand Volleyball Olympians than any other school. Stein Metzger, former UCLA Volleyball and Sand Volleyball Olympian, serves as UCLA’s Head Coach. Jenny Johnson Jordan, also a former UCLA Volleyball and Sand Volleyball Olympian, is our Assistant Coach for the UCLA Sand Volleyball team.

Currently, the UCLA Sand Volleyball team practices and competes at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica. With several schools already investing in on-campus Sand Volleyball courts, UCLA Sand Volleyball would like to raise $100,000 to build Sand Volleyball courts on campus for the team to practice and compete. UCLA Sand Volleyball just launched the UCLA Sand Volleyball Founders Club, an exclusive giving program that will provide the initial financial resources and support to establish a budget and scholarships for the sport. The first donors to UCLA Sand Volleyball have a unique opportunity to help launch a new sport at UCLA.

The first match of the 2014 season is scheduled for Thursday, March 6th. The Bruins will be taking on Cal State Northridge at 3:30pm at the Annenberg Beach House. For more information on Sand Volleyball or to learn more about how to support UCLA’s newest sport, please contact Sarah Lazaro at [email protected] or 310.206.1952.

UCLA ATHLETICS COMPLIANCE CORNER What is “Institutional Control?” When college athletic programs make headlines for NCAA rules violations, a lack of institutional control is often cited to explain significant penalties. To establish “Institutional Control,” the NCAA Constitution provides that UCLA must: • Control its intercollegiate athletic program in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations; • Monitor its program, including identifying and reporting to the NCAA instances in which compliance has not been achieved and take corrective actions; and • Ensure that coaches, student-athletes, university staff and others representing UCLA’s athletic interests share responsibility for complying with NCAA rules. As an NCAA member, UCLA is responsible for the actions of its alumni and supporters. As our most loyal supporters and fans, what is your role? Simply, please keep NCAA rules compliance in mind, report to the UCLA Compliance Office when you are aware of a potential rules violation, and live by the UCLA Compliance mantra, “ask before acting.” Feel free to contact Dan Goldberg, Assistant Athletic Director Compliance at (310) 794-8813 or [email protected].

DID YOU KNOW?... The NCAA has very strict rules that prevent all UCLA student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff from betting on professional and collegiate sports, including men’s and women’s basketball games played during March Madness. So, while UCLA supporters and most folks around the country are busy filling in brackets for their office pools, this is one national pastime that our student-athletes, coaches and staff are required to skip.
