HACKNEY WICK MASTERPLAN

Planning permission was granted on 13th March 2019 to the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and London Borough of Hackney for their joint masterplan for Hackney Wick Central, near to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The Hackney Wick Central masterplan will deliver a new neighbourhood centre around Hackney Wick Station, which recently benefited from a £28m upgrade, funded by LLDC, GLA, London Borough of Hackney and London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The masterplan will transform the area around Hackney Wick Station which will become a thriving town centre, supporting existing communities and a new development of up to 850 new homes, re-providing workspace, as well as providing space for new retail, restaurants, bars, and community facilities.

The location will retain much of the existing affordable workspace including low cost space for artists, and start- ups, ensuring the local creative economy of Hackney Wick continues to thrive. In addition there will be a significant increase of nearly 18,000 square metres of new employment space that will accommodate and enable growth in burgeoning tech and creative businesses. THE BUILDING

The Heritage Building is a truly unique character building which is located in the very heart of Hackney Wick. The area has a strong industrial and creative heritage and is seen as one of London’s most vibrant creative districts. The building has a long history and was previously occupied in an industrial capacity retaining many of its original features including exposed brickwork, steel pillars as well as its architecturally impressive roof structure. An attractive feature is the double height atrium as well as extensive skylights providing excellent natural light throughout the space. The building will benefit from glazing on both elevations. The southern elevation benefits from characterful ‘arched’ windows with the north elevation benefiting from new windows at both ground and mezzanine level. There is an extensive steel mezzanine along the north elevation, subject to planning, there is scope to add additional massing by way of increasing the mezzanine. Due to the wealth of character features, volume and natural light the building will offer a fantastic and sought after working environment.
