    Chaque année, pour célébrer le solstice d’été, de grands bûchers, les feux de la saint Jean , s’allument dans la plupart des régions de France et d’Europe. En Roussillon, ils sont l’occasion de renouveler la fraternité entre les catalans des deux côtés des Pyrénées. Quelques jours avant la fête, une flamme conservée depuis 1966 au Castillet est transportée au sommet du Canigou. C’est là, que le 23 juin , veille de la saint Jean, elle embrase un immense bûcher, dressé au moment de la trobada . Commence alors un relais pédestre de la montagne vers la plaine, pour transmettre la flamme du Canigou à tous les villages de Catalogne. En début de soirée, la flamme arrive à Perpignan et son retour donne lieu à une grande fête populaire : Après la cérémonie du partage du pain avec les bergers du Canigou , la flamme gravit les flans du Castillet, jusqu’à son sommet, qu’elle embrase. C’est l’ouverture des réjouissances, du spectacle son et lumières, des feux de joies et des sardanes auxquelles se mêlent toute la population. Le 24 juin, jour de la saint Jean, la tradition veut que des jeunes gens partent dans la campagne cueillir des herbes choisies, encore empreintes de rosée matinale. Ces plantes aux vertus magiques serviront à confectionner les ramallets de Sant Joan , qui seront ensuite distribués à toute personne qui le demande. Ces porte-bonheur, seront conservés dans les maisons jusqu’à l’année suivante, où de nouveaux bouquets les remplaceront.
