2020 Marshall Public Schools Summer School Course Descriptions Summer School Registration will be open on Infinite Campus beginning Monday, March 30th and run through Friday, April 24th. Step by step directions on how to register will be sent out soon! Session 1 will run from June 10th through July 1st. Session 2 will run from July 6th - July 24th. Mrs. Michalak will help you have fun making up advertisements for products that already exist--and get ready to put your artistic and creative abilities to work making new ones! We will write, design, and present our ads. It is a creative, fun class where you are the star of your ad agency. Session 1: Period 1 Grades: 4-6 Location: C221 - Elementary School Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Advanced Fitness - Teacher - Dan Denniston HS class offering for students interested in improving their strength and speed through the weight room and cardiovascular workouts. This class is available for HS credit, please speak to Mr. Denniston ahead of time to coordinate that. Session 1: (Periods 1 & 2) or (Periods 3 & 4) Session 2: (Periods 1 & 2) or (Periods 3 & 4) Grades: 9-11 Location: High School Weight Room Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Art, Environment & You! - Teacher - Sara Rosewicz Come explore your creative side while spending lots of time outdoors and getting active in our awesome environment. Practice your drawing and painting skills, while also exploring alternative art forms such as sculpture and temporary art from nature while being active and enjoying/discovering the environment around us! Session 1: Periods 1-2, 3-4 (2 hour classes) Grades: 6-8 Location: Middle School Art Room & MPS Outdoor Campus Maximum Student Capacity: 15 Badminton/Pickleball - Teacher - Erin Young This class will spend half of the session playing each game. Students will learn strokes, rules, and scoring while playing these games with their classmates. Session 1: Period 1 Session 2: Period 1 Grades: 4-8 Location: High School Gym Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Baseball/Softball - Teacher - Erin Young Students will learn the basic skills and rules associated with these sports while playing games with their classmates. Session 1: Period 3 Grades: 3-8 Location: High School Gym Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Basketball - Teacher - Erin Young & Michael Place Students will learn the basic skills and rules associated with basketball while playing games with their classmates. Build them and find out! We will spend one week making paper objects to fly, and then build and fly a model rocket. Session 2: Period 2 Grades: 3-4 Location: B135 - Elementary School Maximum Student Capacity: 24 BFS (Bigger, Faster, Stronger) - Teacher - Joe Schneider This is the perfect introductory fitness class for students who are excited to start building some muscle and endurance. Students will learn the basics in crossfit, weight training, running, and plyometrics! Start your afternoons out with some sweat all while helping you prepare for athletic endeavours down the road or just improving your overall health and well being. If you love competition, we can set up some friendly contests--or, if you just want to enjoy a game with peers, we can just play for fun as well! In this class you may have your device out as you wish! Let’s have some fun while playing and exploring a multitude of computer games and apps. Ones you already know, and new ones you want to learn more about! Learn some techniques and tricks to teach your friends and family. Students should bring a digital device or use a school device to practice each day's lesson. Let’s take book clubs to the next level! We will be reading online books, articles, magazines, and more! You will get a chance to have conversations, ask/answer questions, and research topics of your choice! It is your job to discover the truth behind the scenes. In this class, students will learn how to use forensic science to help uncover mysteries and learn about how real-life crimes get solved both now and in the past. Session 1: Period 2 Session 2: Period 1 Grades: 4-7 Location: C223 - Elementary School Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Digital Dazzlers - Teacher - Danette Espindola The world is becoming more and more advanced with technology. Students are using this technology in their homes, personal lives, and at school. There is so much they know, but still more they can learn! In this class they will practice some tips and tricks on digital photo editing, latest apps, ways to be creative and safe ways to use social media. Students should bring a digital device or use a school device to practice each day's lesson. Session 1: Period 1 Session 2: Period 1 Grades: 3-7 Location: B134 - Elementary School Maximum Student Capacity: 24 Drawing and Cartooning - Teacher - Tara Michalak This class will be fun for the beginner to the expert artist. We will be learning drawing strategies with Mrs. Michalak and we will also have time to both learn new strategies and have fun creating drawing methods of our own! We will learn about the environment and create art projects with the materials we find outdoors. Here is your chance! Students will participate in trivia and problem solving in order to complete escape room tasks. Students will also work to develop and create their own escape rooms for others to try. Session 1: Period 1 Session 2: Period 3 Grades: 3-7 Location: B135 - Elementary School Max Student Capacity: 24 Introduction to Our Esports Team - Teacher - Shane Millin Get started in our Esports program by learning and practicing various competitive team-based video games. We will dig into games such as Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch and Super Smash Brothers. Session 1: Period 2, Period 3 Session 2: Period 2, Period 3 Grades:: 7-12 Location: High School Esports Room next to IMC Maximum Student Capacity: 15 EXCEL - Teacher - Becky Denniston EXCEL is a workout class for girls who want to improve their strength, conditioning and mind set. It's a 2 hour course that starts with dynamic stretching, cardio and core. Then we move into the weight room and we work through a lifting session and finish with a "mini" crossfit challenge. Students who attend both sessions are also eligible for a ½ credit of PE.
