Seven species taxa representing three genera are present in the northern Venezuelan Miocene assemblages, six are new to science; Hemipolygona snyderi nov. sp., Hemipoly- gona carrizalensis nov. sp., Polygona praeanapetes nov. sp., Polygona barbascoensis nov. sp., Polygona sepulcralis nov. sp. and Poly- gona buenevaraensis nov. sp. The presence of Pustulatirus tumbeziensis (Olsson, 1932) in the Cantaure Formation of Venezuela is con- firmed. For all three genera, Pustulatirus, Hemipolygona and Polygona these represent the earliest records in the Caribbean portion of the Tropical American Neogene Gatunian biogeographical province. Seven living species, representing the genera Columbarium, Coluzea, and Fulgurofusus, are recognized, and include two species, Fulgurofusus maxwelli and Fulgurofusus marshalli that are described as new. The New Zealand columbariine fauna is unusually diverse at the generic level, and includes the largest members of the subfamily, as well as the only primarily sublittoral species. The morphology, anatomy, and distri- bution of the living species are discussed, as are their relationships to living and fossil congeners. All females of the five species exhibited the characteristic development of male sex organs (penis and/or vas deferens). In Menzel Jemil, H. trunculus and C. mediterraneus exhibit similar imposex levels and were most affected (VDS reading 3-4). The development of a bud penis or a vas deferens sequence behind the right ocular tentacle was reported in Cyclope neritea and N. mutabilis (VDS 1). The concentration of tributyltin (TBT) was similar for the four species. The monobutyltin (MBT) was only detected in C. -

The species list includes 96 species and 48 families. Six species are dominant (Bittiolum varium, Costoanachis semiplicata, Brachidontes exustus, Crassostrea virginica, Chione cancellata, and Mulinia lateralis) and 25 are commercially important (e.g., Strombus alatus, Busycoarctum coarctatum, Triplofusus giganteus, Anadara transversa, Noetia ponderosa, Brachidontes exustus, Crassostrea virginica, Argopecten irradians, Argopecten gibbus, Chione cancellata, Mercenaria campechiensis, and Rangia flexuosa). -
A New Species of Fusinus from Korea (Gastropoda: Fasciolariidae)

Though cited and figured widely in the Korean literature, it has not hitherto been recognized as a separate species. It is compared with F. ferrugineus (Kuroda & Habe, 1960), F. perplexus (A. Adams, 1864), F. nigrirostratus (E. A. Smith, 1879) and F. tuberosus (Reeve, 1847). The new species represents a northward range extension for the genus on the continental coast of the Japan Sea. Keywords: Fasciolariidae, Fusinus juliabrownae, new species, Korea, Japan Sea Introduction A batch of Fusinus specimens was collected in early 2007 from gill nets laid in 50 to 100 meters of water off Geumjin Port on the northeastern Japan Sea coast of the Republic of Korea, and two were sent to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia for identification. These were initially assumed to be small, strongly colored examples of Fusinus perplexus (A. Adams, 1864), which is known from the southernmost part of the Korean peninsula and much of western Japan (Callomon & Snyder, 2004). Detailed examination of the entire sample revealed them to belong to a new species, however, which is here described and named as Fusinus juliabrownae n. sp. -

E-mail: [email protected] SUMMARY: The evolution of the molluscan biota in Sabaudia Lake (Italy, central Tyrrhenian Sea) in the last century is hereby traced on the basis of bibliography, museum type materials, and field samplings carried out from April 2009 to Sep- tember 2011. Biological assessments revealed clearly distinct phases, elucidating the definitive shift of this human-induced coastal lake from a freshwater to a marine-influenced lagoon ecosystem. Records of marine subfossil taxa suggest that previous accommodations to these environmental features have already occurred in the past, in agreement with historical evidence. Faunal and ecological insights are offered for its current malacofauna, and special emphasis is given to alien spe- cies. For this purpose, the material collected from the area between the years 2005 and 2009, within the framework of different projects, was investigated. The investigation of the material taken from various biotopes ranging at depths between 0 and 100 m resulted in identification of 286 mollusc species and 27542 specimens belonging to them. Among the encountered species, Vitreolina cf. perminima (Jeffreys, 1883) is new record for the Turkish molluscan fauna and 18 species are being new records for the Turkish Levantine coast. A checklist of Iskenderun mollusc fauna is given based on the present study and the studies carried out beforehand, and a total of 424 moluscan species are known to be distributed in Iskenderun Bay.
