Vom Überleben tiefer Verletzungen erzählen die beiden Kinostarts UGLY und THE WOMAN WHO LEFT. DIE STADT OHNE JUDEN feiert das große »Come- back«. I had not worked with Dr. Hagemann before this process; she took a chance on me by becoming my advisor. I thought that I would be unable to pursue an honors thesis. By being my advisor, she made this experience possible. Her interest and dedication to my work exceeded my expectations. My thesis greatly benefited from her input. Thank you, Dr. Hagemann, for your generosity with your time and genuine interest in this thesis and its success. Thank you to Dr. Fitz Brundage for his helpful comments and willingness to be my second reader. I would also like to thank Dr. Michelle King for her valuable suggestions and support throughout this process. I am very grateful for Dr. Hagemann and Dr. King. Thank you both for keeping me motivated and believing in my work. Thank you to my roommates, Julia Wunder, Waverly Leonard, and Jamie Antinori, for being so supportive. They understood when I could not be social and continued to be there for me. They saw more of the actual writing of this thesis than anyone else. Thank you for being great listeners and wonderful friends. Thank you also to my parents, Joe and Krista Brady, for their unwavering encouragement and trust in my judgment. I would also like to thank my sister, Mahlon Brady, for being willing to hear about subjects that are out of her sphere of interest.

Be it Hillary Clinton or german chancellor Angelika Merkel – they all wear trousers nowadays. Crossdressing has become normal for women; or is it that to gain and to remain in power you have to wear trousers? Men are more conservative. How would your reaction be if George Clooney or Bill Clinton would wear womens clothes for a gala opening? Everyone would regard this as a “coming out” – which proofs that some of the old taboos are still valid. But wouldn’t it be nice if George Bush - as a sign that he lost power forever – would have to wear skirts? Almost exactly fifteen years after the collection came to Berlin the Moscow exhibition is the biggest Marlene Dietrich exhibition we’ve ever done.

  • Films Fantastic 5
FILMS FANTASTIC 5 The Original CAPTAIN MARVEL Films Fantastic 5, published by Eric Jamborsky for the NFFF Film Bureau. [email protected] Captain Marvel was originally a character in Fawcett Comics, their entry into the super hero comic market. In the origin story newsboy Billy Batson encounters the wizard Shazam who tells Billy that by speaking the wizard’s name he will become Captain Marvel. In the form of Captain Marvel he will have the wisdom of Soloman, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury (thereby hopeless scrambling Greek/Roman mythology). The character quickly caught on, due in part to the often tongue-in-cheek approach. In 1940 Republic Pictures was interested in bringing a super hero to the screen and approached DC Comics about licensing Superman, but DC had already made a deal with Max Fleischer to produce a series of animated cartoons. Republic then approached Fawcett and got the rights to make a serial of the ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL. Now Republic made the best serials at the time, but was not necessarily known for its fidelity to the source material. Billy Batson was no longer selling newspapers, but was broadcasting on radio. Captain Marvel became a bit more gritty, casually tossing bad guys from the roofs of tall buildings and not bothering to catch them. But the Saturday morning audiences ate it up and the ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL became one of the most popular serials of all time, right on the heels of Universal’s FLASH GORDON.
