It more specifically looks at blogs, hypertext novels, hybrid publications that use digital codes needing scanning, and authorship. This project argues that new media technologies are exerting agency on both the physical and cyber world by affecting how literary texts are produced, presented to the reader, and embedded into everyday life. To achieve this, I propose looking at electronic texts through an Actor Network Theory approach as presented by John Law that treats all actors as interacting with various elements, both human and non-human, to create meaning. Supporting this approach is a combination of cyber-ecological and queer methodology that treats digital elements as having agency. In particular, I engage with scholars Stacy Alaimo and Jane Bennett to show that new technology has enabled the formation and visibility of original forms of literary and cultural expression through social media and traditional publishing avenues. Thus, the environment of digital works must be incorporated into any interpretation of the text as a whole. I employ this approach to better analyze a growing presence of individuals, cyber- intellectuals, engaged in social justice causes related to women’s, LGBT, and human rights who are able to network online via blogs and in the physical world to advance their activism. The analysis on hypertext novels provides a more complete understanding of the assemblages that construct meaning in digital works. Hybrid projects, where the content is partially in print and partially available on the Internet, serve to address the convergences of the digital and the physical worlds. Convergences such as these are also impacting the role of authorship in the production of texts in 21st century Spain. Digital components have become a part of everyday life and, subsequently, demand our attention as scholars in order to understand technology’s role in literature and, by extension, society and our lives. iii Acknowledgements For a project that is anchored on environments and the larger mesh of connections, I want to acknowledge the broader groups of individuals and communities within both academic and personal spheres that often overlap and coexist. For authors, disguised or changed names shrouds their circumstance and background. Pseudonyms, or pen names, have been famously used to disguise one’s identity. The word’s origin—pseudṓnymon—means “false name”. The nom de plume allows authors to conduct themselves without judgment attached to their name. Due to an author’s sex, personal livelihood, privacy, or a combination of the three, the pen name achieves agency through its protection. To consider the overall protection of the pseudonym, I will break down the components of a novel’s voice. A text is written by a flesh-and-blood, or actual, author. Second, an implied author or omnipresent figure of agency is present throughout the text. Finally, the narrator relates the story to the readers. The pseudonym offers freedom for the actual author because the author becomes two-fold—the pseudonym and the real person, the implied author and the actual author. The pseudonym can take the place of the implied author by acting as the dominant force of the text without revealing the personal information of the flesh-and-blood author. Carmela Ciuraru, author of Nom de Plume: A (Secret) History of Pseudonyms, claims, “If the authorial persona is a construct, never wholly authentic (now matter how autobiographical the material), then the pseudonymous writer takes this notion to yet another level, inventing a construct of a construct” (xiii-xiv).

Nowadays, it is portrayed as the necessary philosophy of socio-economic life, seemingly driving both companies and cities, to engage in an all-out competitive struggle for resources. However, competition between cities is neither ‘natural’ nor a ‘macro-structural effect’ of contemporary urbanism and state restructuring but a dynamic and relational ensemble of socio-spatial policy processes that connect and disconnect cities, scales and wider policy networks. For European cities, the engineering of inter-urban competition is a state-led political and economic project: it is not a coherent project of the EU but a partial assemblage of different policy processes that have uneven consequences and that are contestable and contested. Instead of looking at inter-urban competition and competitive bidding solely as phenomena that are reflecting and reinforcing class interests, state projects or hegemonic ideologies, it is more productive to include them into a relational and processual analysis and focus on how these processes of inter-city rivalries are actually unfolding and on the specific labor practices that make them possible.

    EL PAISAJE Y EL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL DE LAS RIBERAS DEL TAJO EN EXTREMADURA María del Mar Lozano Bartolozzi Universidad de Extremadura DOI: 10.17075/pvpcr.2021.002 INTRODUCCIÓN Las cuencas de los ríos son espacio y fuente de recursos que han dado lugar a un gran número de elementos patrimoniales testigos de nuestra civilización e iden- tidad. Como consecuencia, han configurado determinados paisajes culturales1. En este escenario, una parte de las investigaciones que desarrolla el grupo de investigación que yo coordino en la Universidad de Extremadura2 versa sobre el paisaje y el patrimonio de las riberas de los ríos Tajo y Guadiana. Para ello, ha sido importante haber obtenido tres proyectos de investigación en convocatorias competitivas nacionales3 que tienen como espacio de laboratorio los citados ríos y sus cuencas fluviales en la región extremeña. Así mismo, hemos mantenido el compromiso de transferencia de resultados con la celebración de seminarios cien- tíficos internacionales, cursos y ciclos de conferencias a los que hemos invitado a investigadores que tienen relación conceptual o metodológica con nosotros para intercambiar experiencias. Hemos publicado artículos y libros, algunos colecti- vos, y hemos presentado ponencias, en congresos nacionales e internacionales, de historia del arte, ingeniería, arquitectura, desarrollo rural y tutela del patrimonio.
