    Community 04 November 2019 Initiative by Al Khor Barwa Complex BEDAR Bedar is a national initiative launched by the Ras Laffan Industrial City community outreach program in a strategic partnership with the Ministry of the Interior aimed at reaching out to community workers, raising awareness and culture, and developing their skills to involve them in the renaissance of the society and the preservation of its property. This initiative stems from the pillars of the Qatar 2030 strategy. Initiative is based as well on the elements of local and international human rights organizations that are concerned with providing a decent life for laborers. It is considered as a qualitative initiative that contributes to the creation of the labor community that is ready for the World Cup 2022. The program is supported by industrial companies in the North: Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Gas, Dolphin Energy, Pearl GTL, Oryx GTL, Alkhaleej Gas. Mr. Raju Ramanathan (HSE Corporate Manager) and Mr.Illyas M.P (Senior HR Supervisor) had attended the initial meeting and gave a list of 3 trainers and among them they have interviewed and selected 2 of our staffs namely Mr.Salman Ismail (HR Supervisor) and Mr. Shajahan Koikkal (HSE Officer) to be part of the Bedar team in supporting them to fulfil their objectives. Our staffs were further trained for a week at Qatar Civil Defense Club by well-known trainer Eng Ibrahim Al Sada who has a Bsc in Electrical Engineering, MBA from Hull University (UK) and currently pursuing his PHD course. In partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation, the national health and safety awareness campaign continues to engage the local community on topics surrounding healthy living. This past year, COPQ partnered with Texas A&M University at Qatar to host the ninth annual Qatar Process Safety Symposium in Doha; facilitating fruitful discussions among professors, practitioners, and students. These are only some of the ways COPQ has worked to bridge the gap between industry and academia, as we focus on enactment and implementation. With this being the first COPQ CSR Report post blockade, it would be imprudent not to touch on the current happenings. The geopolitical climate in the Gulf is informed by the ongoing blockade of Qatar and has led to a joint commitment from all industry sectors to support the nation’s resolute stance and continued development. We have witnessed a journey of socio-economic transformation that has led to an increase in domestic production and self-reliance, as well as unprecedented unity and tenacity among residents and nationals alike. The Gulf crisis underlines the importance of meaningful collaboration between business and community.
