Codebook InDivEU – party preferences European University Institute, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies December 2020 Introduction The “InDivEU – party preferences” dataset provides data on the positions of more than 400 parties from 28 countries1 on questions of (differentiated) European integration. The dataset comprises a selection of party positions taken from two existing datasets: (1) The EU Profiler/euandi Trend File The EU Profiler/euandi Trend File contains party positions for three rounds of European Parliament elections (2009, 2014, and 2019). Party positions were determined in an iterative process of party self-placement and expert judgement. For more information: https://cadmus.eui.eu/handle/1814/65944 (2) The Chapel Hill Expert Survey The Chapel Hill Expert Survey contains party positions for the national elections most closely corresponding the European Parliament elections of 2009, 2014, 2019. Party positions were determined by expert judgement. For more information: https://www.chesdata.eu/ Three additional party positions, related to DI-specific questions, are included in the dataset. These positions were determined by experts involved in the 2019 edition of euandi after the elections took place. The inclusion of party positions in the “InDivEU – party preferences” is limited to the following issues: - General questions about the EU - Questions about EU policy - Questions about differentiated integration - Questions about party ideology 1 This includes all 27 member states of the European Union in 2020, plus the United Kingdom. Which people and institutions will play a leading role in the Brexit talks? How will Brexit aff ect the most important EU policies? And what does Brexit mean for the EU’s international role? Second, we have launched a programme of research and events on the economic causes of populism, to be concluded in the spring of 2018.

  • Uef-Spinelli Group
UEF-SPINELLI GROUP MANIFESTO 9 MAY 2021 At watershed moments in history, communities need to adapt their institutions to avoid sliding into irreversible decline, thus equipping themselves to govern new circumstances. After the end of the Cold War the European Union, with the creation of the monetary Union, took a first crucial step towards adapting its institutions; but it was unable to agree on a true fiscal and social policy for the Euro. Later, the Lisbon Treaty strengthened the legislative role of the European Parliament, but again failed to create a strong economic and political union in order to complete the Euro. Resulting from that, the EU was not equipped to react effectively to the first major challenges and crises of the XXI century: the financial crash of 2008, the migration flows of 2015- 2016, the rise of national populism, and the 2016 Brexit referendum. This failure also resulted in a strengthening of the role of national governments — as shown, for example, by the current excessive concentration of power within the European Council, whose actions are blocked by opposing national vetoes —, and in the EU’s chronic inability to develop a common foreign policy capable of promoting Europe’s common strategic interests. Now, however, the tune has changed. In the face of an unprecedented public health crisis and the corresponding collapse of its economies, Europe has reacted with unity and resolve, indicating the way forward for the future of European integration: it laid the foundations by starting with an unprecedented common vaccination strategy, for a “Europe of Health”, and unveiled a recovery plan which will be financed by shared borrowing and repaid by revenue from new EU taxes levied on the digital and financial giants and on polluting industries.

  • Reacties Kamerleden
Reacties Kamerleden Amhaouch, Mustafa (CDA) 20 oktober 2020 (telefoon) Dhr.

  • Bucharest, October 4, 2019 to the Attention of Jacob MOROZA
Bucharest, October 4, 2019 To the attention of Jacob MOROZA-RASMUSSEN Secretary General of the ALDE Party Dear Jacob, Our continuous and ever-strengthening cooperation has so far produced excellent outcomes at every possible level on an European scale, while also having great incentives on the Romanian political background and evolutions. The increasing coordination between Union Save Romania (USR) and ALDE Europe has not only helped our party, as well as the Alliance USR PLUS, in sharing the objective truth about the political evolutions in Romania, but also created the foundations for USR and PLUS to be the forefronters of the new approach to politics in Romania, in respect to safeguarding EU core values and principles and ultimately leading to the creation of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament. Besides our contribution to and involvement in the evolution of Renew Europe, USR is now a full member of the ALDE family and one of our main political objectives at the European level is to deepen our integration in the ALDE efforts to promote liberalism and the European core values and principles throughout the entire European continent. In this respect, I personally believe, as does every member of USR, that it is the right moment for our party to move one step forward in this process. We are ready to assume a more comprehensive role at the level of the ALDE Bureau. It is the reason why I am honored to present you our nomination of my colleague Radu Mihail as our candidate for a position of Vice-president of the ALDE Bureau.
