Elite freestyle motocross athletes Mat Rebeaud, Levi Sherwood and Josh Sheehan will fire up the crowd at the Swatch Free4Style in Estavayer-le-Lac from July 5 to 7, 2013. To complete this unbelievable line-up, a new jet ski competition, the oval race, will be introduced this year. In between the X Games in Munich and the X-Fighters in Madrid, two Swatch Proteam athletes will perform in the FMX show in Estavayer-le-Lac. Local competitor Mat Rebeaud, X- Fighters World Champion 2008 and silver medallist at the X Games in Barcelona this year, along with New-Zealander Levi Sherwood, reigning X-Fighters World Champion, will be challenged by another serious contender, the Australian Josh Sheehan, four times X-Fighters medallist since 2011. Mat Rebeaud: “This competition is a great opportunity to show my freestyle mates our lovely area and traditions. The atmosphere is always great at the Swatch Free4Style, it’s always a pleasure to ride here. I live only 100 meters away from the venue, it’s like jumping in my garden!” During the FMX show, Josh Sheehan will perform an unprecedented trick in Switzerland: the double backflip. Stéphane Rossier, responsible for the FMX competition at Swatch Free4Style: “A double backflip requires hours of practice and full concentration. You need to manage your fear, the bike’s rotation and your body’s orientation”. Mat Rebeaud, for his part, will present a flair: “It’s a 540° rotation, he explains, a new trick I have performed only for a little while. The level will be extremely high this year and I absolutely want to show that I am still on top.” Jet ski races filled with suspense On the water, the jet ski competition is enriched by a new racing format: the oval race. On a closed loop, two pilots will be competing against each other in a wild chase. These thrilling races will provide intense suspense and entertainment for the spectators. The traditional three-round speed race will feature an increasing number of participants, close to 100 drivers have registered so far. Among them, two-time World Champion Jérémy Poret, together with brothers Jordan and Alex Enderlin, both two-time Swiss Champions. Wakeboard will also be admirably represented by the Red Bull team, which will spice up the weekend with stunning demos. The best DJs in the country! During the evening, electronic music will take over the Swatch Free4Style at the open-air stage. On Friday, Quentin Mosimann will set the spectators on fire, supported by Lucas Monème. Saturday night, crowds will go wild with D! Club’s resident DJ Bad Nelson’s Party Bangers performance, alongside The Cruzaders. Every ingredient of the Free4Stype recipe is set for visitors to enjoy the experience at its best. In the Superbike and Senior TT classes Hutchinson used Dunlop N-Tec slicks, while his choice of tires in the Supersport and Superstock classes was the Dunlop D211GP. Relevant offers Freestyle motocross rider Levi Sherwood made up for not being nominated last year by being supreme winner at the Manawatu Sportsperson of the Year Awards. Sherwood was named the sportsman of the year and the overall sportsperson of the year when the gongs were handed out at the Awapuni Function Centre last night. The judges may have had a guilty conscience after Sherwood didn't even register last year when he won the Red Bull X-Fighters world tour, as well as a silver medal in Moto X Freestyle event at the X Games in Los Angeles. This year he had an injury-disrupted season and finished only fifth in the X-Fighters and fourth at the X Games. He did have multiple top five placings with a second and third in Mexico and Dubai. The 22-year-old wasn't able to receive the award last night because he is at the Big Boys Toys show in Auckland, but had his uncle Robin and aunt Denise collect it on his behalf. The sportsman was a tough category this year, with All Blacks Aaron Smith and Aaron Cruden contenders, as well as speedway legend Peter Rees. Top road cyclist Jesse Sergent wasn't even a finalist. Taekwondo was the surprise winner in two of the other major categories, picking up the sportswoman and coach of the year awards. Estelle Speirs was the sportswoman after she was the first New Zealand women to win a gold medal in sparring at a world event, at the 2012 World Cup.
