Beginning with the year 1941, the Report will áppear as the fourth or December number of Fran­ ciscan Studies. FRANCISCAN STUDIES — The first twenty-one volumes of Franciscan Studies are a series o f monographs on subjects o f Franciscan history and sdence which were published at irregular intervals by St. Anthony Guiid Press, Paterson, N .     Renaissance Monti di Pietà in Modern Scholarship: Themes, Studies, and Historiographic Trends1 nicola lorenzo barile University of Bari Il existe une longue tradition d’études des Monti di Pietà, qui est presqu’entière­ ment publiée en italien. Cet article propose une revue historiographique de ces recherches, en se basant sur quatre thèmes centraux les ayant orientées. Le premier de ces thèmes correspond aux relations entre les banques et les premiers Monti, et à la question de savoir s’ils étaient de véritables banques ou des institutions charitables. Le deuxième thème correspond au contexte de ces pratiques formé par les débats théologiques et les opinions juridiques de la fin du Moyen Âge et de la Renaissance. Le troisième thème est centré sur l’influence des prédicateurs franciscains, incluant comment leurs discours antisémites ont été contrebalancés par les préoccupations économiques locales, pour former un compromis pratique. Le quatrième thème correspond au rôle et à la fonction qu’ont joués les Monti dans le Royaume de Naples. En conclusion, cette revue examine les recherches sur les Monti publiées en anglais depuis les années 1930. here is a long tradition of studying Italy’s charitable pawn banks, or monti Tdi pieta, ahistorically, as either a chapter in the history of local pious in- stitutions, an issue related to late medieval scholastic discussions of usury, or an argument in the debate on the medieval origins of modern banking.2 By examining a few principal themes, as these have been developed in both Italian and English language studies, we can see how the monti are now emerging as a distinct subject of research fully integrated into larger historiographical trends relating to sources, methodologies, and questions.

Dort wurden in einer Truhe Dokumente und Statuten aufbewahrt. 1275 Spä- ter trafen sich die Mitglieder auch in der Dominikanerkirche Santo Stefano. 1276 An Ein- nahmen flossen der Korporation Hinterlassenschaften, Spenden und gerichtlich verhängte Bußgelder zu. 1277 Sie veranstaltete zudem öffentliche Sammlungen im ganzen Stadtgebiet, hauptsächlich jedoch während der Gottesdienste in S.   • L'imago Pietatis E Gli Istituti Di Carità. Problemi Di Iconografia
    L’«IMAGO PIETATIS» E GLI ISTITUTI DI CARITÀ Problemi di iconografia A partire dalla seconda metà del Quattrocento, in Italia, il tipo ico- 1 nografico dell’Imago pietatis , la raffigurazione di Cristo morto, ritto nel 1) Il tema iconografico si sviluppò nell’Oriente bizantino, passando in Occidente solo in un secondo tempo, nel corso del XIII secolo. Un primo fattore di diffusione è da collegarsi alla presa di Costantinopoli avvenuta nel 1204, in seguito alla quale una quantità notevole di icone e reliquie affluì nelle terre dei conquistatori. Ulteriore centro di diffusione per l’immagine è poi stata la città di Venezia, assieme al suo territorio, tradizionale ponte di collegamento tra le due aree, al cui ambito risalgono molti tra gli esemplari superstiti più antichi: da quest’area proviene infatti la Croce di Chiaravalle nel cui braccio destro è inserita una pasta vitrea che imita il tipo orientale dell’Akra Tapeinosis (al riguardo: C. Bertelli, La Croce di Chiaravalle, in R. Zorzi [a cura di], Il Re dei Confessori. Dalla croce dei Cloisters alle croci italiane, catalogo della mostra, Milano 1984, p. 130), mentre per quanto riguarda la pittura essa appare in una tavola del Museo di Torcello e nel Trittico di santa Chiara a Trieste. Ed è interessante notare come Venezia sia l’unica località dove talora appare un’Imago pietatis riprendente una tipologia iconografica bizantina, in cui non è inclusa la rappresentazione delle braccia. I tempi della presenza ebraica a Vicenza nel Quattrocento La presenza ebraica a Vicenza nel medioevo abbraccia poco più di un se- colo, dalla prime sporadiche attestazioni nel territorio nella seconda metà del Trecento sino alla de nitiva espulsione del 1486. Le prime notizie di ebrei nel territorio vicentino si hanno infatti nel 1369 per Lonigo, dove era attivo il banco dell’ebreo padovano Leone di Consiglio da Perugia1, mentre dall’ultimo decennio del Trecento erano certamente pre- senti degli ebrei anche nel capoluogo2; tale situazione è attestata anche da una sentenza dell’Avogaria di Comun veneziana datata 1395, che dimostra come almeno da due anni prima a Vicenza risiedesse ed operasse l’ebreo Abraam di Samuel da Norimberga3. Malgrado queste prime attestazioni tardotrecen- tesche, una presenza più de nita si ha solo a partire dai primi decenni del Quattrocento, quando le fonti permettono di delineare maggiormente i primi ebrei stabilitisi in città, sia in funzione di prestatori, sia come pezzaroli (ven- ditori di vesti ed oggetti usati).
