Pre-basic seed crops are eligible for inspection if they are planted with potatoes that were classified or had an inspection report issued the previous year as Pre-basic 1, 2 or 3 or Pre-basic TC (Mini Tubers) that were obtained from propagation units that have been approved by SASA. All initial planting material in these units must have been derived from nuclear stock (pathogen tested microplants) produced by SASA. Pre-basic crops must be grown on land on which potatoes have not been grown in the preceding 7 years and is free from wart disease and potato cyst nematode.
