Romanov News Новости Романовых
Romanov News Новости Романовых By Paul Kulikovsky №90 September 2015 Monument to H.H. Prince of Imperial Blood Oleg Konstantinovich was opened in Tsarskoye Selo September 29, in Tsarskoye Selo, in the territory of the St. Sophia Cathedral was inaugurated a monument to the son of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich - Prince Oleg Konstantinovich, who participated in the First World War and was mortally wounded during a battle, and died a few days later. He gave his life for the Faith, Tsar and Fatherland. The monument is made on the initiative of the Fund Ludvig Nobel. The location for the monument is well chosen and not at all accidental. St. Sophia cathedral was the regimental church of the Life-Guard Hussar Regiment, in which served Prince Oleg. The sculpture is not entirely new, as it is cast after the pre-revolutionary model by the sculptor Vsevolod Lishev. Anna Yakovleva, Ludvig Nobel Foundation: "The sketch of the monument was designed by sculptor Lishev in 1915. But after the events that followed, it could not be put, but it was casted. By the way, the sketch was approved by the father of Oleg Konstantinovich." The new monument is made by sculptor Yaroslav Borodin. The ceremony began with a memorial service at the St. Sophia Cathedral, which was headed by Dean of the Tsarskoye Selo district Archpriest Gennady (Zverev). Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, Sergey Stepashin said - "Today is a truly historic day. It is a day when we remember the wonderful and worthy representative of the Romanov dynasty, who died at age 22 on the front of the First World War. -

Science Museum Group Journal the Cosmonauts Challenge
Science Museum Group Journal The Cosmonauts challenge Journal ISSN number: 2054-5770 This article was written by Ian Blatchford, Natalia Sidlina 11-02-2015 Cite as 10.15180; 150406 Discussion The Cosmonauts challenge Published in Autumn 2015, Issue 04 Article DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15180/150406 Abstract Focusing on the experience of working with Russia’s cultural, industrial and political sectors, this paper investigates how the development of new contacts and partnerships has contributed not only to the loan of material of historic significance to the Science Museum’s exhibition, but more broadly changes perceptions about Russia and its space programme in the western world. Addressing the multiple challenges involved – legal, political and security, among others – it reveals the importance of many of the space objects themselves as well as demonstrating how the Science Museum has helped to maintain a dialogue with Russia even during the most testing times. In September 2015 the Science Museum opened the most ambitious special exhibition it had ever undertaken: Cosmonauts: birth of the space age. Whilst the creation of a ‘blockbuster’ exhibition might be the normal expectation of a great art museum, the fact that a science museum should undertake such an endeavour is equally worthy of comment, and this article seeks to illustrate the exceptional curatorial, museological, logistical, legal and political hurdles that this project had to overcome. Indeed, they would astonish even the grandest and most experienced of the international art museums. Art museums are delighted when they can display the acclaimed works of Monet, but even the most valuable paintings cannot be said to be have been official state secrets in the way that so much Russian space technology has been. -

In dialogue with Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987), we will be showing Pagava's work for the very first time at the gallery from Tuesday, June 4th to Saturday, 12th 2021. Although the two of them probably never met, there are many similarities between their careers and practices, which the exhibition highlights. Originally from Georgia and from Norway, Vera Pagava and Anna-Eva Bergman lived most of their lives in France and led their careers both at the heart and on the edge of the artistic scene. The similarities between their practices are numerous, and go beyond their biographies and the influence that their native countries may have exerted on their practices : a sensitive approach minimalism for example, nourished by an intimate experience of landscape and nature. Both cultivated "the art of abstraction" as Anna-Eva Bergman wrote, bringing us close to the horizon of an abstraction, which is nonetheless never reached. This exhibition is organized in partnership with the Hartung-Bergman Foundation (Antibes, FR) and the Vera Pagava Cultural Association.
