Patient Communication and Motivation The secrets to unlocking their recovery potential Tutor: Christopher Lewis Duration: 1 Day Course Description This course will give you new understandings and personal skills that will enable you to connect with all your patients and to be able to communicate in their language. With this new knowledge you will see an increase in patient motivation and a decrease in the conflict that can sometimes arise as a result of their treatment. Training aims and objectives • The training will improve you self-awareness with regards to what motivates you and the impacts this has on your behaviour. • You will get a better understanding of patient behaviour and the reasons behind it. • You will learn how to utilise your team’s strengths for more effective working practices and we will also identify possible weaknesses. • You will improve communication with both your patients and your team. • You will gain an understanding of how you can motivate your patients to a more successful recovery and how to build better rapport with them. • The training will give you a better understanding of how you behave in conflict situations. • The training will give you an understanding of how to handle patient conflict resulting from their treatment and how to manage this interaction. Chris is a former member of the Royal Air Force team development training team based at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering in Shropshire. At the college he was responsible for delivering cross-spectrum training to delegates from senior executive to junior engineer level. The majority of the training at the college involved leadership, management, coaching and mentoring, high performance team development, and conflict management. With his high profile within the college, Chris was selected for the college’s "Behaviour and Performance Development" team, responsible for mentoring training, the advanced instructional techniques course and the MODs train-the-trainer courses. Following a successful and productive tour at the College, Chris was then selected for the RAF’s Community Outreach Team where he worked as a motivational speaker and lead trainer across the North West, North Wales and Cheshire. Chris is experienced and qualified in many fields which include; Performance Coaching, Life Coaching, Management Coaching and Mentoring, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Belbin® Team Roles, Transactional Analysis and has numerous Adventure Training qualifications.
