PRESS INFORMATION Ensemble in Residence ENSEMBLE RESONANZ With its extraordinary enthusiasm and artistic quality, Ensemble Resonanz is one of the leading chamber orchestras worldwide. Since the ensemble was founded in 1994, its highly original programmes have spanned everything from the classical to the contemporary, often revealing surprising connections in the process. The self-governing ensemble consists solely of a string section and frequently collaborates with high profile artists, such as violist Tabea Zimmermann and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras. As Ensemble in Residence in the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall, the string collective has had great success with its concert series »Resonances« – therefore, it is only fitting that the ensemble moves its residency to the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall in January 2017. For its first season in the new concert hall, the ensemble has devised an innovative concept called »INTO THE UNKNOWN«. In this series, the concert programmes are not revealed until the last minute. New concert-related events, such as philosophy talks and experimental »Offbeat« workshops, bring Ensemble Resonanz and its concert programmes closer to audiences. As part of its residency in the Elbphilharmonie, Ensemble Resonanz can be experienced beyond its concert series in various festival co-productions and music education projects in the new concert hall. Apart from the residency, the ensemble’s home remains the resonanzraum in the Media Bunker on Feldstrasse, in the very heart of the St. Pauli district. Specially designed with the string ensemble in mind, this new concert space unites spectacular acoustics for chamber music with a club ambience. The modern concert series URBAN STRING takes place here monthly. Multiple international concert tours reinforce the international reputation of Ensemble Resonanz and the city of Hamburg. http://www.ensembleresonanz.com/en/home.html Press Office: Tom R.
