His film Gulabo Sitabo was supposed to release in theatres on April 17. 2020 ; however, it was directly streamed to homes from 12 June 2020 . Amazon gave him “a big release” in 200 countries . His film had 15 dubbed versions and subtitles in several languages such as Indonesian, Hebrew and Polish. “We are going directly to the audience,” he says. “It’s not going to take away from what the film is all about .” The city, says Sircar, is one of the many characters in the film. “The film is soaked in the old Lucknow ” he adds. It is shot in actual locations, Hazratganj and Chowk areas. A devout fan of Satyajit Ray, Shoojit stayed at Hotel Clarion, the same place the great auteur had stayed in when shooting Shatranj Ke Khiladi. “It is always great to be inspired by him,” he says . Like Ray, he also has a close-knit group of people he likes to work with. Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar have been his producing partners, Shantanu Moitra produced the score to many of his films, while Kamaljeet Negi and Avik Mukhopadhyay have been his preferred lensmen. Chaturvedi, too, has worked on most of his films ... Another person who has become familiar with Sircar’s worldview is Kaym ( K M College alumnus ) Amitabh Bachchan. “Somehow our relationship is such that we don’t speak much,” he says. “He looks at me and gauges if I am happy or not with the take. He’ll say, ‘Avik, roll again. He’s pissed off, so let’s try again’.” 15.06.2020 India Today adapted .

The romance between Bollywood and Digital Media A study on the implementation of digital promotional activities in Bollywood Student Name: Dinesh Koendjbiharie Student Number: 357429 Supervisor: Payal Arora PhD MA Media Studies – Media and Business Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam MA Thesis July 2015 0 Version 2.0. - July 2015 The romance between Bollywood and Digital Media A study on the implementation of digital promotional activities in Bollywood ABSTRACT The Indian cinema, often referred to as Bollywood, is when it comes to production scale the largest movie industry in the world. The media and creative industries have been facing a new challenge in the past decade such as, but not limited to, the implementation of new digital media technologies in their digital promotional strategies. This research looks into the promotional activities in contemporary Bollywood that are visible to the consumer. The research question: “How does Bollywood use social media for promotional activities to reach the domestic and global market and possibly strengthen their current promotional strategies?” will be answered through two in-depth case studies on Bollywood blockbuster movie ‘Happy New Year’ and a movie that did exceptionally well ‘Queen’. This research firstly touches upon the changes and the development the industry went through, followed by creating an understanding of the industry’s contemporary position. The first step of the analysis is based on creating an in-depth understanding of the cases and the corresponding data from among others Facebook and Twitter. The following step of the analysis is solely focussed on the adjoining film music industry, in which the attention is paid to the promotion of the film music and also the promotion through the official social media channels of the cases.

  • Gerontological Issues and Bengali Films: a Critical Study of Select Ageing Characters
Journal of Critical Reviews ISSN- 2394-5125 Vol 7, Issue 6, 2020 Review Article GERONTOLOGICAL ISSUES AND BENGALI FILMS: A CRITICAL STUDY OF SELECT AGEING CHARACTERS Ashoke Kumar Mandal1, Dr. Shri Krishan Rai2 1Ph.D Research Scholar, Humanities & Social sciences Department, National Institute of Technology Durgapur, West Bengal, India, Email: [email protected] 2Associate Professor, Humanities & Social sciences Department, National Institute of Technology Durgapur, West Bengal, India, Email: [email protected] Received: 14.02.2020 Revised: 13.03.2020 Accepted: 10.04.2020 Abstract Population ageing is a globally acclaimed crisis of the 21st century and for the days to come. India is undergoing unprecedented demographic changes like the dramatic increase of population of adults aged 60 and up. Better nutrition, sanitation, healthy care, education, economic well-being, declining mortality, fertility rate, and infant mortality as well, increasing age at marriage particularly among women, lead to the expansion of life expectancy. As life expectancy is increasing, so also different types of problems on the physical, psychological, social, economic levels are rising up. The impacts of modernization and globalization leading to proliferation of old-age homes, changing family values and structure, overseas migration cannot be denied here. In this paper the gerontological issues have been focused in the lives of four select characters in the Bengali films Benche Thakar Gaan (2016) and Mayurakshi (2017) to show their challenges and struggles to overcome. This paper contextualizes the issues and shows the relevance in the present socio-cultural and economic fabric. This paper also puts stress on the policy initiatives, successful ageing and the united efforts of the society with a hope of creating a good atmosphere favourable for all round development of the elderly.
