Programma-Wk-Kust-2009 5249.Pdf Welcome by Mayor of Budva The city of Budva is not only the capital of Montenegrin tourism, but also a city of sports where numerous clubs operate, with an equal share of individual and collective sports. The athletes of Budva competing in various national and international contests achieve remarkable results, thus representing their city and their country of Montenegro in the best possible way. And appreciating the importance of sports, the Municipality of Budva allocates every year in its Budget considerable financial means for the development of sports in our city. Many times in the past Budva had the honour of hosting numerous important national and international sports events, and this positive practice will be continued in the future. On behalf of the Municipality of Budva, and myself, I would like to express my great pleasure with Budva being the venue for the 26th World Sea Shore Angling Championship Men and the 17th World Sea Shore Angling Championship Ladies in October 2009. I wish the Organisers of and the participants in these Championships a successful competition and achievement of higher results, and a pleasant stay in our city to all those who visit it on the occasion. Rajko Kuljaca Mayor of Budva Welcome by President of the Sea Angling Federation of Montenegro Dear sporting friends, It gives me great pleasure to invite, on behalf of the Sea Angling Federation of Montenegro, your national federation/association to take part in: XXVI World Sea Shore Angling Championship Men, and XVII World Sea Shore Angling Championship Ladies to take place in Budva, Montenegro, 10th -18th October 2009. We are honoured that Montenegro, and the city of Budva, owing to the trust placed by C.I.P.S. and FIPS-M, will again be the host to the world`s best sport sea anglers. We take this also as a recognition for our successful organisation of the previous world and European championships and cups, and we are truly grateful for that. The young state of Montenegro, and its capital of tourism Budva, will welcome you cordially and friendly as before, and present to you her exceptional natural beauties, hospitality and the broad soul of her people. We express our particular welcome to our dear female guests whose participation in the Championship will not only enhance but also adorn this great event. May these championships take place in the true sporting competitive spirit, sporting cooperation and friendship among our sportsmen, federations and peoples. WELCOME! Miodrag Vugdelic President WELCOME TO BUDVA WELCOME TO THE COAST OF PEARLY SAND BEACHES There is beauty one can never have enough of. It is the same, but yet ever different: each time looks very familiar, and yet appearing mystical and elusive. It relaxes, rests, lures and seduces you. It is the kind of beauty one constantly seeks and keeps returning to. Such is Budva, the capital of the Montenegrin tourist industry, situated on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. As the legend has it, it was founded some 2500 years ago by Cadmo (or Cadmus), son of the Phoenician King Agenor, together with his beautiful wife Harmonia (daughter of Ares and Aphrodite): the hearts of both throbbed before the beauty of the Budva Riviera! Great civilisations have been present in these parts leaving deep traces behind. Therefore Budva came to be a city of rich cultural heritage, an eventful history and striking beauties. The heart of Budva is its Old Town – a unique monument of culture and history comprising ancient gates dated to the 6th century B.C., pylons, antique necropolises, Roman capitals, early-Christian basilicas (late 5th c. A.D.), the Church of Santa Maria in Punta (840 A.D.), St. Sava’s Church (12th c.), the remains of Santa Maria de Castello (14th c.) or “Our Lady Of Budva” – the patron of the city. Here one also finds eight monasteries – including Podlastva (14th c.), Praskvica (15th c.), Podostrog (17th c.). Podmaine (18th c.) – as well as other historic sights. The present-day Budva, with the population of around 20,000 and the territory of 122 sq. kilometres, is a world- known tourist resort offering to visitors its 35 beaches – “the pearls of nature” – in the length of 25 km., eighty hotels – including those of de lux category, such as Sveti Stefan, Splendid, HIT Maestral, Avala – with the capacity of over 13,000 beds, and additional 60,000 beds in holiday centres, camps and private houses. The daily number of visitors in the high season and the annual overnights are around 100,000. It is also the city of cultural events, of entertainment and supreme enjoyment: the annual Theatre City Festival, Song of the Mediterranean Festival, Days of Horse Mackerel Fishermen’s Festivities; the grand concerts organised here included those of Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Julio Iglesias, Lenny Kravitz, Goran Bregovic… In 2009, the city expects to host Tina Turner, Depeche Mode, Robbie Williams… Of particular interest one may find the power boat race taking place just of shore. And numerous discos, bars and restaurants, as well as its galleries and the museum, additionally make the city worth visiting. To put it simply: Budva is an elite destination, a symbol of a modern Montenegro – the youngest member of the United Nations Organisation. It is the promoter of the world events in Montenegro, that made our country a world’s brand. The BUDVA RIVIERA – a coast of dreams, of pearly beaches, the shore of returning to the nature – expects you to visit it and experience its charms! © Lonely Planet Publications 94 Adriatic Coast If coastlines could enter an equivalent of the Eurovision Song Contest, the bookies would surely back the eastern Adriatic – and not just because of Balkan block-voting either. Like the Bay of Kotor, it’s the juxtaposition of mountains and sea that sends the spirit soaring, although unlike the bay it’s a less closed-in, sunnier vibe that’s engendered here and the water’s even clearer. Croatia may hog most of the coast but Montenegro’s tiny section packs a lot into a very small area (a bit like the country itself). Without the buffer of Croatia’s islands, more of Montenegro’s shoreline has developed into sandy beaches, culminating in a 12km continu- ous stretch leading to the Albanian border. Unsurprisingly, much of the nation’s determination to reinvent itself as a tourist mecca has focused firmly on this scant 100km coastal region. In July and August it seems that the entire Serbian world and a fair chunk of its northern Orthodox brethren can be found crammed into it. Avoid those months and you’ll find a charismatic clutch of small towns and fishing villages to explore. Living on the fault line between various civilisations, the people of the coast have forti- fied their settlements since ancient times. That legacy can be explored in the lively bars and shops of Budva’s Old Town, the surreal glamour of Sveti Stefan’s village resort, the ramshackle ADRIATIC COAST residences within Ulcinj’s fortifications and, most evocatively, the lonely and mysterious ruins of Haj-Nehaj, Stari Bar and Svač.

Budva Montenegro ... Montenegro One of them is Durmitor, a magnificent mountain that hides numerous glacier lakes. Another Lovcen mountain - protector of tradition and pride of Montenegro, combines the restless spirit of the sea with the wise continental region, thus maintaining the centuries long equilibrium. The silence of Skadar Lake, the biggest lake in the Balkans is disturbed only by the gentle flight of the birds, as there is an abundance of them there. In the very south of Montenegro, eternally in love with each other, the Bojana river and the Adriatic Sea have created one of the most beautiful beaches on the Montenegrin coast - the Big Beach.

Located right across Puglia, the heel of Italy, Montenegro (Crna Gora) means “Black Mountain” and it is one of Europe’s youngest countries despite its thousands of years of history. Its capital is Podgorica. As one of the six republics that made up the former Yugoslavia,Montenegro continued its existence under the roof of Serbia-Montenegro for a while after the collapse of the country. Following the referendum held in 2006, the Parliament of Montenegro declared its independence on June 3, 2006. Visa-free travel Similar to Norway, Montenegro displays some amazing fjord scenes. It is the attraction center of the Balkans with its national parks and 117 beaches, almost all of which proudly carry the Blue Flag, adorning the 293-kilometer-long coastline. • MONTENEGRO Montenegro’S Meandering Coastline, Backed by Dramatic Limestone Mountains, Gives on to the Serene Blue Waters of the Adriatic
MONTENEGRO Montenegro’s meandering coastline, backed by dramatic limestone mountains, gives on to the serene blue waters of the Adriatic. And while Croatia, to the north west, has grown in popularity, few Britons drive two hours down the coast from Dubrovnik to the ancient town of Budva. Founded by the Greeks in the fourth century BC, and then fortified during the Middle Ages, the town forms the heart of the “Budva Riviera”, which runs 22 miles from Trsteno to Buljarica, and is dotted with a series of sheltered coves and eight miles of sand and pebble beaches. Getting there Budva is 12 miles from Tivat airport, 40 miles from Podgorica airport and 60 miles from Dubrovnik airport, in Croatia. Alternatively, you can fly to Dubrovnik and drive down the coast to Budva. A five-minute stroll east along a narrow coastal path lie the pebble beaches of Mogren I and II. On the way, note the bronze sculpture of a ballet dancer, a symbol of Budva, performing a graceful arabesque as she gazes out to sea. Mogren I is backed by cliffs, and connected to Mogren II by a short tunnel. Skip Slovenska Plaza, a one-mile strip of greyish sand west of town, which is overlooked by restaurants and late-night bars, and is crowded with sunloungers. For more secluded bathing, head to the small island of Sveti Nikola (known to locals as Hawaii) by taxi-boat from Budva’s seafront promenade. Covered by pinewoods and fragrant Mediterranean vegetation, it has a few beaches and a restaurant. Best of all, you can rent a kayak and paddle around to the south side to reach several isolated coves.
