Since its commencement in 2012, the ICCC conference has grown steadily from a brand new conference with a strong vision, to a unique venue in bringing together global researchers and practitioners in areas of communications to the greater China region. In particular, this year’s IEEE/CIC ICCC aims at addressing a key theme on “Ubiquitous Communications & Computing for Future Internet”, which broadly cover all disciplines of communications from fundamental research to emerging applications, while emphasizing society – shaping technologies in the modern IT era. In addition to providing a major forum for people to present their frontier research work and discuss the latest breakthroughs, the ICCC 2016 also features Keynotes, Invited Talks, Tutorials, Industrial & Academic Panels, Exhibitions, and dedicated Workshops. For those who attend the IEEE/CIC ICCC for the first time, you will soon appreciate the fact that IEEE/CIC ICCC is more than just an outstanding technical conference, it is also a friendly rendezvous to interact, inspire, and discover. This year we are honored to have four world renowned experts from academia and industry, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Prof. Quan Yu of Xidian University, China, Prof. Geoffrey Ye Li of Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, Dr. Peiying Zhu of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Canada, and Prof. Hikmet Sarj of CentraleSupelec, France, to be our keynote speakers. Not only have each of them made extraordinary contributions to the fields of communications, their diverse expertise and keen visions in both academia and industry are equally remarkable. We look forward to their stimulating and scholastic seminars in IEEE/CIC ICCC 2016. We would like to acknowledge the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) and the China Institute of Communications (CIC) for their great partnership in sponsoring the ICCC 2016. We feel deeply grateful to all the people that have contributed to make this event possible: the authors who contributed papers, the conference steering committee, the invited speakers, and the diligent reviewers. Special thanks go to HUAWEI for their generous support. Kudos to the technical committee members for a remarkable job they have done in planning and organizing the meetings. Thanks are also extended to the conference administrative committee, the volunteers, supporters, and Wangjiang Hotel, for their tirelessly efforts throughout the course of the conference. He cre- ated the slogan: “Be healthy and work for the mother- Hland for 50 years”, which is still popular among Chinese people today. His name is Ma Yuehan, a pioneer of modern Chinese sports. He was a prime example of that popular slogan when he was a professor of physical education at Tsinghua University for 52 years, from 1919-66. Th is year is the 130th anniversary of his birth, and his spirit and infl uence are still felt. “I still remember the fi rst day I became a student of Ma,” said Wang Guanglun, a professor at Tsinghua University and an expert in hydraulic structure engineering. “He did not give his fi rst lesson on the playground but instead showed all of us into the big hall. He stood on the stage and raised his hands, asking us to do what he did and shout ‘move on and move on’. “His passion and love of sports inspired every student on cam- pus. We spent lots of time playing diff erent sports.” Wang was the captain of Tsinghua University’s basketball team in the late 1950s and the healthy body he acquired through sports helped him in his professional life. “Some people might question if it is worth spending time on sports rather than on your research.

Property tax pilot in Shanghai and Chongqing: increase or stabilized the selling price in china’s real estate market By YiYang Wan B.S., Kansas State University, 2012 A REPORT submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree MASTER OF ARTS Department of Economics College of Arts and Sciences KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Manhattan, Kansas 2018 Approved by: Major Professor LeiLei Shen Copyright © YiYang Wan 2018 Abstract This paper aims to examine the effect of property taxes on selling prices in China’s real estate market. I collect the data in China’s 35 major cities before and after the property tax has been implemented, and estimate the effects of property taxes using the Differences-in-Differences method. I find that the effect of property taxes in Shanghai and Chongqing does not lead to lower house prices in these two cities. • A PEDAGOGY of CULTURE BASED on CHINESE STORYTELLING TRADITIONS DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement
A PEDAGOGY OF CULTURE BASED ON CHINESE STORYTELLING TRADITIONS DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Eric Todd Shepherd MA, East Asian Languages and Literatures The Ohio State University 2007 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Galal Walker, Advisor _______________________ Mark Bender Advisor Mari Noda Graduate Program in Dorothy Noyes East Asian Languages and Literatures Copyright by Eric Todd Shepherd 2007 ABSTRACT This dissertation is an historical ethnographic study of the Shandong kuaishu (山东快书) storytelling tradition and an ethnographic account of the folk pedagogy of Wu Yanguo, one professional practitioner of the tradition. At times, the intention is to record, describe and analyze the oral tradition of Shandong kuaishu, which has not been recorded in detail in English language scholarly literature. At other times, the purpose is to develop a pedagogical model informed by the experiences and transmission techniques of the community of study. The ultimate goal is to use the knowledge and experience gained in this study to advance our understanding of and ability to achieve advanced levels of Chinese language proficiency and cultural competence. Through a combination of the knowledge gained from written sources, participant observation, and first-hand performance of Shandong kuaishu, this dissertation shows that complex performances of segments of Chinese culture drawn from everyday life can be constructed through a regimen of performance based training. It is intended to serve as one training model that leads to the development of sophisticated cultural competence. ii Dedicated to Chih-Hsin Annie Tai iii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Any dissertation is a collaborative effort.
