Una città che cerca di uscire da un passato difficile e vive un presente di speranza. E’ questo lo specchio che i numeri di “Panormus” ci riportano della nostra città. Una città che ancora, nel 2014, vive come tante grandi città una situazione di difficoltà e di crisi ma allo stesso tempo cerca le possibilità di di riscatto e rilancio. Di anno in anno, le cifre dell'annuario raccolgono e descrivono informazioni che costituiscono parte della memoria storica della città, ricordano a tutti chi siamo e chi siamo stati, permettendo di riflettere su dove stiamo andando e, soprattutto, come lo stiamo facendo. In una parola, i numeri dell'annuario statistico raccontano, al di là della fredda rappresentazione grafica di tabelle e diagrammi, la vita dei palermitani, di quella sempre più articolata e variegata comunità che anima la nostra città. Attraverso questi numeri e queste tabelle è possibile comprendere meglio ciò che avviene in città, con dati precisi e scientificamente affidabili; informazioni utili a comprenderne i problemi e la loro evoluzione, indispensabili per ragionare e progettare insieme sullo sviluppo futuro. Non solo ricercatori, esperti del settore e appassionati, ma anche semplici cittadini potranno trarre spunti di riflessione ed elementi di informazione utili ad esercitare davvero e fino in fondo il proprio diritto-dovere alla conoscenza e alla partecipazione. Un lavoro reso possibile dalla passione e dalla cura con cui i dati sono raccolti, classificati e comparati dall’Unità di Staff Statistica del Comune, dando informazioni puntuali e competenti, rendendo concreta e tangibile la possibilità di essere davvero una "Opinione pubblica" efficace perché informata. Capitolo 1 AMMINISTRAZIONE Panormus – Annuario di Statistica del Comune di Palermo NOTE INTRODUTTIVE Il 6 e 7 maggio 2012 si è votato a Palermo per l’elezione del Sindaco e per il rinnovo del Consiglio Comunale. I candidati a Sindaco erano 11, e i più votati sono stati Leoluca Orlando, con 105.286 voti (pari al 47,42%) e Fabrizio Ferrandelli, con 38.498 voti (pari al 17,34%). Grafico 1.1: Elezioni Amministrative 2012 Elezione diretta del Sindaco 1° turno Al ballottaggio, tenutosi il 20 maggio 2012, è stato eletto Sindaco di Palermo Leoluca Orlando, che ha raccolto 158.010 voti, pari al 72,43%, mentre Fabrizio Ferrandelli ha raccolto 60.139 voti, pari al 27,57%. It is to be observed in this Index, which is made for the sake of complete and easy refer- ence to the Maps, that the Latitude and Longitude of Rivers, and names of Countries, are given from the points where their names happen to be written in the Map, and not from any- remarkable point, such as their source or embouchure. The same River, Mountain, or City &c, occurs in different Maps, but is only mentioned once in the Index, except very large Rivers, the names of which are sometimes repeated in the Maps of the different countries to which they belong. The quantity of the places mentioned has been ascertained, as far as was in the Author's power, with great labor, by reference to the actual authorities, either Greek prose writers, (who often, by the help of a long vowel, a diphthong, or even an accent, afford a clue to this,) or to the Greek and Latin poets, without at all trusting to the attempts at marking the quantity in more recent works, experience having shown that they are extremely erroneous.

PREFACE ' I "HIS book lays little claim to be considered as more than a -i- compilation, checked where possible by original research. It is an attempt to bring together the very various authorities on the district of Asia Minor with which it deals, and to digest the mass of available information into a convenient form. The district, crossed and re-crossed by numerous travellers, is com¬ paratively well known, and consequently affords greater oppor¬ tunity than most parts of Asia Minor for a treatise which may serve as a more or less permanent basis for future workers.
