UPPER TRIP ITINERARY – IF YOU PLAN TO FLY

Round-trip Plane Reservation to Las Vegas -- Plan to arrive not later than 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on the day before your trip. Your return flight should be scheduled to accommodate your arrival time on the commuter flight from the South Rim on the day after your trip ends.

Meeting Place -- McCarran Airport, Terminal 1, Level Zero, outside the lobby through the doors that exit to the shuttle parking area. To reach Level Zero, from baggage claim take escalators located east of the baggage claim information desk (signs above the escalators will also direct you to Level Zero). Meeting time is not later than 2:30 p.m. (Pacific Time) on the day before your trip.

Luggage -- To avoid the possibility of lost luggage, carry all gear and clothing on board with you from city of origin. Since you will be hiking out, OU will supply all camping gear and you should plan on taking no more than 15 lbs. of clothing and personal items in a lightweight nylon daypack. If you are staying at a Las Vegas hotel before or after your trip you should be able to store extra luggage at the hotel. If you plan to fly with Vision Air they can store your luggage at their terminal in Boulder City. The cost is $15/bag with arrangements being made at check-in.

Flight to Marble Canyon Lodge - - At 2:30 p.m. a Airlines representative will pick you up at the airport meeting area and transport you by van to their waiting airplanes at the Boulder Terminal in Boulder City. They will board you for the one hour scenic flight to Marble Canyon Lodge. The cost is $268. Contact Grand Canyon Airlines at (800) 582-4139 or go to www.bar10transport.com. NOTE: Ground transportation is also available via Aztec Shuttle at a cost of $119/person. Contact Bar 10 for reservations (see above).

Arrive at Marble Canyon Lodge -- Check in, identify yourself and your affiliation with Outdoors Unlimited, get settled, and get a bite to eat before 8:00 p.m. Rooms are based on double occupancy. If you desire a single room there is an additional charge.

Pre-trip Orientation Meeting -- At 8:00 p.m. your trip leader and other members of the crew will give you a short orientation on all aspects of river travel. They will issue a waterproof bag for your personal gear and answer any questions you may have.

Put-in at Lees Ferry -- After breakfast, OU will shuttle you by van to Lees Ferry at approximately 8:00 a.m. Your pre-packed waterproof bag will be loaded on the boats and we will shove off.

At Trip's End -- We will arrive at Pipe Creek, about one mile below , at approximately 10:00 a.m. (during late June and July arrival can be as early as 7:00 a.m.), You will repack your gear into your nylon daypack and fill your water bottles in preparation for the hike to the South Rim (see page 5, "Hiking the "). The crew will make lunch and supply you with ziplock bags so that you can pack a snack for the trail.

When You Reach the Rim -- The first major building houses the Reservation Desk and a fountain, bar and restaurant. They will direct you to your pre-booked overnight accommodations. To make your reservations at the South Rim for the evening you hike out of the Canyon contact Xanterra at (888) 297-2757, fax (303) 297-3175, or www.grandcanyonlodges.com. These reservations are becoming difficult to get so you should contact them immediately after reserving space on the river trip. Reservation phones open at 7:00 a.m. (Mountain Time). For reservations on the morning flight from the South Rim to Las Vegas the day after you hike out contact one of the following: Grand Canyon Airlines (800) 582-4139 or www.bar10transport.com, cost is $237/person; or, Scenic Airlines at (800) 634-6801. Another option is a bus ride which leaves Bright Angel Lodge at 3:30 p.m. and arrives approximately 9:00 p.m. at your hotel in Las Vegas. The cost is $99/person. Flight to Las Vegas - - Catch the shuttle or a taxi in front of your overnight lodging for transportation to the Grand Canyon Airport.

Option A: VAN TO MARBLE CANYON PRIOR TO YOUR TRIP

Drive to Grand Canyon South Rim Village and park your vehicle near Bright Angel or . A shuttle van is offered daily from the South Rim to Marble Canyon. The van leaves Bright Angel Lodge at 8:00 am arriving in Marble Cany at 10:45 am or leaving at 1:30 pm arriving at 4:15 pm. The cost is $80. Reservations are required -- contact Trans Canyon Shuttle at (928) 638-2820 or www.trans-canyonshuttle.com.

Option B: DRIVE TO MARBLE CANYON PRIOR TO YOUR TRIP

Plan to arrive at Marble Canyon Lodge on the day prior to your trip.

When You Reach the Rim If you had your vehicle shuttled from Marble Canyon, it will be parked in the Bright Angel or Maswik Lodge parking area and the keys will be in your pre-arranged place.
