'43 2 MITH ITS ALL GIRL STAFF- Editor- Betty Rueter Associate Editor- Betty Beck Business Managers Class Editors Literary Editors Madalyn Kelley Esther Marting Dorothy Vrooman Marion Schmidt Wynne Gregory Mary Lewis Mildred Brotz Marilyn Taano To the students and faculty, Due to the many difficulties that confronted us in the production of this, the "Grindstone" of 1943, we present a different and greatly simplified year book. The staff, with its late start and lack of materials due to war limitations, has worked diligently and ceaselessly to complete a book that will carry the memories of a war year at college. Many said it couldn't be done but here it is and we hope that it will fulfill the place of the book we all wanted. Sincerely, Betty Rueter, Editor of the Grindstone, '43 3 THE {JrejidenlJ MESSAGE This 1943 Grindstone will stand out as unique for all time. Many members of this year's class were called by draft. Eighteen others received their diplomas at the end of the first semester. Others who entered with the class of '43 graduated in September. Still others called from "Reserves" to active service were granted diplomas. College seniors will look back with clear memories to this year on the campus, in the nation, and in the world. It has been a much better year and many more students have been on campus than we dared expect. In spite of several waves of jittery fear, good work has been done and world events have made their contribution to a sound education. And now, hail and farewell so far as undergraduate days are concerned! Congratulations on the high privi lege and personal achievements of a college career. Tomorrow's world is yours. You must live for the causes in which your comrades have died. The tests of the coming years will be as severe and more complex than war. You:r: Alma Mater wishes for you the best that that knowledge ripened into wisdom can give, and asks that you ever represent the scholastic standards and godly character for which this institution of learning ever stands.
