Dává dílu naprosto jiný rozměr a pomáhá divákovi se mnohem více do děje vcítit a navodit tu správnou atmosféru. Ve své práci jsem se zaměřila na filmovou hudbu Michaela Nymana, konkrétněji na film The Piano, který vznikl ve spolupráci s režisérkou Jane Campion. Konkrétně v tomto filmu má hudba významnější úlohu než je běžné, protože slouží hlavní hrdince jako výrazový prostředek. Moje práce bude rozdělena do čtyř větších celků, kde v první části bude popsán začátek Nymanovy kariéry, jak se vůbec k hudbě dostal a co ho pomáhalo utvářet. Na tuto kapitolu bude navazovat kapitola, která se bude věnovat čistě tvorbě jeho soundtracků s výjimkou filmu The Piano, kterému se v obecnějším slova smyslu bude věnovat třetí kapitola. V poslední kapitole bude rozebrána konkrétní analýza auditivní složky tohoto filmu. A to z pohledu funkčního i návaznosti na vizuální složku. Také bude rozebrána motivace původními skotskými písněmi a jejich užití v jednotlivých skladbách soundtracku tohoto filmu. Pro konkrétní analýzu tohoto díla jsem si vybrala teoretické dílo Michaela Chiona s názvem Audio-Vision: sound on screen. Analyzuje audiovizuální dílo spíše z pohledu synchronizace auditivní a vizuální složky, proto jsem si k analýze také připojila knihu Milana Kuny Zvuk a hudba ve filmu: k analýze zvukové dramaturgie filmu. Ta se zase konkrétně věnuje dělení zvuků, které jsou během filmu užívány. Týká se to nejen filmové hudby, ale také různých ruchů, řeci a dokonce i ticha. Myslím si, že tyto dvě díla jsou pro moji analýzu dostačující především proto, že obě nahlíží na problematiku filmové hudby z jiného úhlu, a proto bude analýza komplexnější. Díky těmto teoretickým spisům bych chtěla vytvořit analýzu, která zdokumentuje užití jednotlivých skladeb této filmové hudby a její synchronizaci. A to jak s vizuální stránkou filmu, tak i s ostatními druhy zvuků a popsat jejich funkci v tomto filmu. Dále bych ráda popsala užití motivů tři skotských písní Bonnie Jean, The Flowers of the Forest a Gloomy Winters Noo Awa. Tyto melodie Michael Nyman použil při komponování hudby k filmu The Piano a z melodie Winters Noo Awa vychází dokonce ústřední píseň soundtracku. 5 3. Michael Nyman 3.1. Dětství Michael Laurence Nyman se narodil 23. března 1944 ve Stratfordu ve východní části Londýna. Je to slavný skladatel, pianista, libretista, performer, dirigent, kapelník, muzikolog a v současné době se také věnuje tvorbě vizuálního umění, konkrétně fotografií a filmů. Jeho rodiče nebyli hudebně vzdělaní a ani svého syna k hudbě nijak zvlášť nevedli. Pracovali jako dělníci v kožešinovém průmyslu. Hudba, se kterou se Michael Nyman v dětství dostal do styku, byla pouze hudba z rádia nebo z televize. Během jeho raného dětství jeho hudební talent nebyl objeven, natož nějakým způsobem rozvíjen. Sám Nyman vtipkoval, že jako malý žák na základní škole Yardley Lane, kterou navštěvoval, nemohl vstoupit do žákovského sboru, protože byl označen za „bručouna“ bez hudebního sluchu. Velký zlom přišel kolem osmého roku jeho života, kdy přešel na Sir George Monoux gymnázium ve Walthamstow, kde si jej všiml školní učitel hudby Leslie Winters, který Nymanovi poskytl desetiletou intenzivní hudební průpravu a měl velký vliv na jeho hudební rozvoj. Mladý Nyman měl nevýhodu toho, že doma neměl možnost přístupu k jakýmkoliv hudebním nástrojům, a proto chodil hrát ke svému učiteli domů, na jeho piano. Tím se svým způsobem dostal z dělnické třídy do kontaktu se vzdělanějšími lidmi, což začalo silně ovlivňovat i jeho akcent. Díky jeho učiteli vzkvétaly Nymanovy hudební schopnosti, a také jej naučil psát elegantním kurzívním rukopisem, což mu také pravděpodobně pomohlo k tomu, že si ve čtrnácti letech našel práci hudebního opisovače na částečný úvazek.1 Účinkoval ve školním sboru, kde zpívali církevní písně a Nyman jej od svých deseti do šestnácti let doprovázel na klavír. Jeho první živé vystoupení bylo právě v rámci tohoto sboru.2 V době, kdy se učil hudbu od Winterse také začal poprvé navštěvovat živé koncerty a opery. To jej do budoucna samozřejmě velmi ovlivnilo. Jmenujeme například operu Don Giovanni Wolfganga Amadea Mozarta, která se stala důležitým zdrojem pro Nymanovo přepracování a vznik jeho skladby In Re Don Giovanni z roku 1977. 1 AP SIÔN, Pwyll. Nyman vzpomíná, že se mu doma povalovaly spousty začátků skladeb, nějaké prostřední části ale žádné konce. Wintersova výuka a průprava mladého Nymana připravila tak, že v září 1961 byl jako sedmnáctiletý student přijat na londýnskou konzervatoř Royal Academy of Music. Přestože se věnoval komponování, ještě než na akademii vůbec nastoupil, kompozice se nestala jeho hlavním oborem. Se stejným zájmem a entusiasmem se věnoval nejen skladbě, ale také hudební historii, hře na piano a cembalo. Velkým vzorem se mu stal na akademii jeho učitel Alan Bush3, o kterém Nyman říká, že ho velmi ctil a že měl velký vliv na jeho život. Právě on ovlivnil, že se Michael Nyman nadchl pro muzikologii a

Official website: www.TheMexicanSuitcase.com ABOUT THE FILM: THE MEXICAN SUITCASE tells the story of three lost boxes that were recovered by the film’s director, Trisha Ziff, from a closet in Mexico City in 2007. The boxes, misplaced in the chaos at the start of WWII, contained many of the Spanish Civil War negatives by the legendary photographer, Robert Capa. These boxes have become known as the Mexican Suitcase. Rumors had circulated for years of the survival of the negatives, which had disappeared from Capa's Paris studio at the start of the war. They held 126 rolls of film, not only by Capa, but also by Gerda Taro and David “Chim” Seymour, fellow photographers who were also acclaimed for their coverage Spanish Civil War. Capa, Taro and Seymour were Jewish immigrants from Hungary, Germany and Poland respectively, and they had found a home in the culturally open Paris of the early 1930s. They often traveled together in Spain. Their combined work constitutes some of the most important visual documentation of that war. It’s particularly poignant to note that Gerda Taro would die before her 27th birthday at the Battle of Brunette in Spain, killed when a Republican tank veered out of control. Her funeral bought thousands on to the streets of Paris. Exactly how the negatives reached Mexico City is not definitively known. However, given Mexico’s unique role in the war, and how it opened its doors unreservedly to the Republican exiles, it makes sense that the suitcase would find its way there.

A cette époque, il compose déjà mais en 1964, il décide de mettre de côté l’écriture Mmusicale pour travailler en tant que musicologue puis par la suite, il devient critique musical. Ses articles se retrouvent dans des revues comme The Listener, The Spectator... Durant cette période, le monde de la musique contemporaine est fortement imprégné par des compositeurs comme Boulez, Stockhausen, Xenakis… À travers ses articles, Michael Nyman choisit de mettre en lumière des courants musicaux émergents. Dans le même temps, il n’hésite pas à consacrer ses analyses musicales à des genres autres que le classique : le rock, la musique indienne… Cet éclectisme l’amènera plus tard à jouer et composer avec des musiciens issus de divers horizons musicaux. Ainsi, dans le courant des années 1970, il collabore tour à tour avec le groupe de rock anglais The Flying Lizards1, avec le mandoliniste indien U.Shrinivas ou bien encore avec sa compatriote Kate Bush2.

Rahman, in full Allah Rakha Rahman, original name A.S. Dileep Kumar, (born January 6, 1966, Madras [now Chennai], India), Indian composer whose extensive body of work for film and stage earned him the nickname “the Mozart of Madras.” Rahman continued his work for the screen, scoring films for Bollywood and, increasingly, Hollywood. He contributed a song to the soundtrack of Spike Lee’s Inside Man (2006) and co- wrote the score for Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). However, his true breakthrough to Western audiences came with Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches saga Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Rahman’s score, which captured the frenzied pace of life in Mumbai’s underclass, dominated the awards circuit in 2009. He collected a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for best music as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best score. He also won the Academy Award for best song for “Jai Ho,” a Latin-infused dance track that accompanied the film’s closing Bollywood-style dance number. Rahman’s streak continued at the Grammy Awards in 2010, where he collected the prize for best soundtrack and “Jai Ho” was again honoured as best song appearing on a soundtrack. Rahman’s later notable scores included those for the films 127 Hours (2010)—for which he received another Academy Award nomination—and the Hindi-language movies Rockstar (2011), Raanjhanaa (2013), Highway (2014), and Beyond the Clouds (2017).
