The University preserves and continues significant traditions. The legal predecessors of the University – the founders of the historic traditions of training public service professionals – were the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University, the Police College and the Faculty of Public Administration at Corvinus University of Budapest. NUPS has five faculties: the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training, the Faculty of Law Enforcement, the Faculty of Science of Public Governance and Administration, the Faculty of International and European Studies and the Faculty of Water Sciences. The renewed training portfolio of our University reflects the contemporary challenges of social, economic, and security issues affecting the public sector. The educational and research performance of NUPS has made an important contribution to the modernisation of public service and throughout to the integration processes at European and international scale. NUPS successfully introduced a new comprehensive and career-based training system of public servants that is a way towards one of the most professional knowledge transfers among European public services. Our commitment to research excellence is an investment in the future of our region. NUPS is a leading knowledge source in the fields of public policy, diplomacy, security and the military, law enforcement and water management. A comprehensive approach towards each of these disciplines enables us to explore the latest advancements in public service science. The newly constructed Ludovika University Campus and the renewed Orczy Park were ceremoniously opened on the 4th of April 2018. 26 hectares of green area provides open spaces for walking, running, training or relaxing, not only for students, but for the general public, too. The renovated historical facilities, and the new Educational Centre are waiting to be used by students with patriotic spirit, in a modern campus highly equipped with training buildings, dormitories, shooting range, sports hall, swimming pool and outdoor sport grounds. Our main wish is that you enjoy your time at the National University of Public Service and in Budapest or in our regional Campuses. The staff and lecturers at the National University of Public Service take great pride in supporting you during your program. CEU eTD Collection Abstract The dissertation is based on detailed empirical coverage of three publications, the IMIT yearbooks , the journal Libanon and the Ararát yearbooks that provide a representative sample of Hungarian Jewish scholarly and intellectual discourses in the second half of the Horthy era until right before the Hungarian Holocaust of 1944. In the course of the introduction, besides clarifying the subject, aim and scope of the work, a brief overview of modern Hungarian Jewish history is provided and the challenge of writing Hungarian Jewish intellectual history is explained and contextualized. Next to discussing the general characteristics of these three publications and providing overviews of their main contents, the six empirical chapters offer thematic analyses of Hungarian Jewish identity options, the ways internal and external relations were conceived, of alternative models of Jewish culture and assertions of defining values, of political-ideological platforms as well as of various stances on historicity and formulations of historical narratives.

Activities in Budapest Sights to see 1) The Buda castle A must-see for everyone who visits the Hungarian capital. Besides its romantic streets, shops and cafés, the castle includes famous buildings such as the Matthias Church, the Fisherman’s bastion, or the National Gallery. Bus 16 takes you up to the castle, but you can also decide to walk from Clark Ádám Square – or take the unique funicular from there. 2) Gellért hill Gellért Hill is one of the top tourist attractions of the city thanks to the magnificent panorama from the top of its cliffs facing the Danube. You can climb the hill from two sides: take the stairs by the waterfall at Elizabeth Bridge, or take the gradual, but somewhat longer pathway by the Gellért Bath. 3) St. Stephan’s Basilica Located near to Deák Ferenc Square, St. Stephan’s Basilica is one of the most beautiful and monumental churches of Hungary. Here is found the ‘Holy Right’, a mummified right hand dedicated to St. Stephan, the first king of Hungary. 4) Heroes Square and Városliget Heroes Square with the statues of the most famous figures of Hungarian history is among the most popular sights of Budapest. Beyond the Square lies Városliget, the big city park of Budapest, which also includes the Vajdahunyad castle and the Széchényi thermal bath. To get there, take bus 105 or Metro line 1 (Földalatti) from Deák Ferenc tér. 5) Opera House The Hungarian State Opera is the masterpiece of Miklós Ybl, one of the greatest Hungarian architects of all time. The Opera was opened in 1884.
