At the end of the morning session (746th) of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, today, 11 February 2011, there will be four special presentations on “International charter” by Mr. Tim Stryker of the United States of America, on “Remote sensing of the earth’s atmosphere with navigation satellites: recent results (from GFZ)” by Mr. Jens Wickert of Germany, on “Upgrade on Japan’s contribution to the international space weather initiative” by Mr. Kiyofumi Yumoto of Japan and on “Chinese ground-based space weather monitoring project” by Mr. Chi Wang of China, in Room M1.

At the end of the afternoon session (747th) of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, today, 11 February 2011, there will be three special presentations on “Status and perspectives of development of the global navigation satellite system GLONASS” by Mr. Igor Kurskiy of the Russian Federation, on “Institutional framework of the project IGMAS: international global monitoring aerospace system” by Mr. Sergey Cherkas of the Russian Federation and on “Management of 2010 floods and rains in Pakistan using satellite technology” by Mr. Imran Iqbal of Pakistan, in Room M1.

Presentations were made by the representative of the United States of America on “Extreme space weather”, by the representative of Germany on “From research to operations - ongoing and planned European and international space weather projects”, by the representative of Chile on “Reception, interpretation and utilization of satellite images received by UN-SPIDER during earthquake and tsunami which affected Chile on 27 February 2010” and by the representative of the European Space Agency on “The 10th anniversary of the international charter space and major disasters.

Presentations were made by the representative Romania on “Four-dimensional earth observation: space and time”, by the representatives of Austria on “Satellite-based soil moisture information for flood risk assessment - the case of the 2010 Pakistan floods”, by the representative of the United States of America on “International space weather initiative update”, and by the representative of the Russian Federation on “Study of the ion fluxes in the vicinity of earth”.
