N. 2 2/2011 comma 20/b legge 662/96 - Filiale di Milano. eScLusiva intervista al ministro maroni sciescursionismo oberdrautal, austria Gennaio Febbraio 2011 Supplemento bimestrale a la Gennaio “Rivista Febbraio del 2011 portfolio isole svalbard, mare artico » eDIToRIALe Lo STeLVIo e Le ASSOCIAZIonI Il 22 dicembre 2010 il Consiglio di Ministri ha approvato il decreto legislativo sul riassetto amministrativo del Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio smembrandone la gestione, sino a quella data unitaria, a favore delle amministrazioni locali. Il passaggio della gestione ai singoli territori ha visto favorevoli le Province autonome di Trento e Bolzano e la Regione Lombardia. A nulla sono valsi invece gli appelli unitari e la lettera aperta inviata al Presidente del Consiglio, al Ministro dell'Ambiente, al Ministro degli Affari Regionali e ai presidenti di Regione Lombardia, dalle principali Associazioni ambientaliste e ambientali italiane tra cui anche il nostro Sodalizio. "Siamo estremamente preoccupati - si legge nella lettera aperta - e contrariati dall'idea di un Paese che decide di cancellare settantacinque anni di gestione unitaria di un patrimonio naturalistico montano di indiscussa eccellenza e notorietà anche internazionale qual è il Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio". Lo Stelvio è Parco Nazionale perché rappresenta - sottolinea il documento - un elemento irrinunciabile del paesaggio naturale e culturale del nostro Paese, ed è anche una tessera fondamentale del sistema sovranazionale delimitato dalla Convenzione Internazionale per la Protezione delle Alpi, che il nostro Paese, come tutti gli altri Stati dell'Arco Alpino, ha ratificato con propria legge nel 1999. In oltre un secolo di storia dei parchi nel nostro continente, non è mai accaduto che un Paese cancellasse, di fatto, un Parco Nazionale. Nell'appello si chiedeva che le decisioni sul futuro dello Stelvio non venissero assunte per decreto, ma all'interno di un tavolo istituzionale e di concertazione tra i soggetti interessati. Così non è stato: ora occorrerà continuare a tenere alta la guardia ed essere sempre più 'sentinelle della montagna' affinché il Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio resti un patrimonio comune. Un elemento da sottolineare è la rinnovata volontà comune di fare lobby positiva da parte delle associazioni che, come per il federalismo demaniale, stanno ritrovando slancio e schemi d'azione condivisi. Ten years after my predecessor I will have the difficult task to replace Fabio Palma in writing the editorials of Stile Alpino. Certainly he is better skilled than me in writing and has been one of the creators of this magazine founded by the Ragni di Lecco group. Nonetheless, I will try to be up to the job helping to select the last ascents around the world and to suggest new places but always taking care to include ascents in the Alps and close to home. The objective of Stile Alpino is to improve and steadily grow in order to publish ar- ticles, that might not have been published before, on ascents in unknown or known areas.

No climber can fail to have been thrilled by the event, which has now been acclaimed by the nation as a whole and honoured by the Sovereign, and to the Fell and Rock Club with its long association with Everest expeditions there is especial reason for pride and joy in the achievement.

The year saw AC members involved in several important winter as­ cents, a continuous crossing of all the 4000m peaks in the Alps, plus a fine series of first woman solo ascents. It also saw the demise of two outstanding continental activists: Romain Vogler, one of the greatest Swiss Alpine rock-climbers and full-time guide, died at the age of 34 in a rappelling accident on a crag at Maladiere. It appears that he was making a long rappel and had not set the ropes equally, his weight com­ ing on to a single strand as he neared the bottom. In May Fred Vimal, France's most promising young Alpinist, was killed whilst trying to solo a hard mixed free/aid route on the Grand Capucin. He was held by his ropes after a 20m fall, but appears to have hit his head and prob­ ably died of hypothermia.

Ve své knize uvádí 53 hlavních, 39 vedlejších vrcholů na které vystoupal v letech 1966 - 1988 jako první Brit bez pomocí horských vůdců. Kniha popisuje jakým způsobem zařazoval jednotlivé vrcholy do svého seznamu. Hlavní část se samozřejmě věnuje samotným výstupům, které absolvoval.
