Ten years after my predecessor I will have the difficult task to replace Fabio Palma in writing the editorials of Stile Alpino. Certainly he is better skilled than me in writing and has been one of the creators of this magazine founded by the Ragni di Lecco group. Nonetheless, I will try to be up to the job helping to select the last ascents around the world and to suggest new places but always taking care to include ascents in the Alps and close to home. The objective of Stile Alpino is to improve and steadily grow in order to publish ar- ticles, that might not have been published before, on ascents in unknown or known areas.

It was to be the first time that I would set foot on Tibetan soil. Through the small windows I tried to catch my first glimpse of the buildings. This country, its people, their beliefs and culture have fascinated me for a long time. Soon, I would be among them. However, I probably would not have travelled there without a special incentive. At the beginning of this trip stood the 2005 Klein Matterhorn project by Peak Architekten for the world’s highest hotel. It is a dream loca- tion for a hotel that will explode all dimensions. Like a space station, its pressurized cabins equipped with all amenities will make life comfortable at an altitude of 4000 m – just over 13,000 ft – above sea level.

Petite histoire des Amis de la Nature Thonon-Chablais Album A.N. Album A.N. Album A.N.

Alpejskie 4-tysięczniki Po zdobyciu kilku 4-ro tysięczników przyszło mi do głowy zrobienie listy (a jakże) i kompletowanie pozostałych szczytów. • Notes 1971 the Alps Colin Taytor
Notes 1971 The Alps Colin Taytor Summary The summer season of 1971 must be one of the best on record. In the Western Alps the winter snowfall was late and less than usual, so the big classic faces came into condition early and remained in good condition for much of the season, in spite of several quite big storms in late July and August. A solo first ascent and half a dozen solo ascents of major routes were made by British climbers. British parties also made ascents of important routes such as the North-west faces of the Olan and the Ailefroide in the Dauphine, the Brouillard Pillars, the Grand Pilier d'Angle, the Central Pillar of Freney and the Droites North face in the Mont Blanc region, and of the Eiger and the Matterhorn North faces. Many other British parties made notable ascents and the notes below, while not complete, are confined mainly to their achievements. Details of ascents by continental climbers can be found in Alpine Climbing and in the continental journals, particularly La Montagne and Alpinismus. I am grateful particularly to Doug Scott, the Editor of Alpine Climbing and to Ken Wilson, the Editor of Mountain for collecting much of the information on which these notes are based, and also to many others who sent in information about their routes. DAUPHINE Probably more English parties climbed in the Dauphine in the summer of 1971 than ever before. Weather conditions were good, particularly during July, although several big storms occurred in August. As a result, many of the big routes were in condition.

LYSKAMM E. 4527m & LYSKAMM W. 4491m - TRAVERSE One of the most famous ridge of the Alps. This fantastic ride connect the two summits of Lyskamm along an incredible snow ridge suspended over the space of the north face. It is possible to traverse in both direction, but we suggest you the direction East to West. In this way, we will meet the early morning light at the beginning of the E ridge and we will descent the W face when snow is still well frozen. Program: 1st day: Meeting with the guide in Staffal around 14:00p.m. - Equipment check. We will take the cable car up to Punta Indren. From there we easily hike up to the Gnifetti hut, where we overnight. 1:00 hours - 370m 2nd day: Departure around 5:00 depending on the period of the year. We will follow the trail going to Margherita hut until the proximity of the Lys Pass; here we joint the feet of the E ridge; this ridge gives you already an idea of the terrain we are going to traverse for the rest of the day. We climb it until the Lyskamm O; from this summit, an easy descent goes to the wide saddle between the two summits. The following part have also some mixt climbing up to grade II° just before the Lyskamm Occ. Here we start the descent along the steep West face, down to the Felik Pass and the Sella hut. After a quick stop at the hut, we keep going down to the Passo Bettaforca and the lift.
