E' un tipo di fantascienza molto suggestiva. The contrast is quite striking. I can write on and on - wish to talk to more Asimovian fans out there. Later writers have added authorized, and unauthorized, tales to the series. Upon approaching the planet, they are drawn inside the Moon's core, where they meet a robot named R. The Mule whose real name is never revealed is a mental freak and possesses the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of others. This tale was definitely a nod to Belisarius a famous Roman general. His notability and fame increase and he is eventually promoted to First Minister to the Emperor. And by the time Bayta breaks out of that mindset, it is too late. Asimov really blew this one out of the water. Lathan Devers, a native of the Foundation, and Ducem Barr, a patrician from the planet Siwenna, have been "guests" of Bel Riose for several months when it becomes clear that they will soon be treated as enemies, or even be killed. This book is just as good, maybe even a little better, than the first book. It was an enjoyable adventure despite bringing nothing new to the storyline. The novel is set in an era in which interstellar travel is in the process of being discovered and perfected. Those familiar with this trilogy know that the key character is psychohistorian Hari Seldon, who believes that one can predict the behavior of large masses of people via mathematical equations and, thus, predict how events will develop in the future. While the first Foundation has developed the physical sciences, the Second Foundation has been developing Seldon's mathematics and the Seldon Plan, along with their own use of mental sciences. Brothers and sisters, we should evaluate "The Mule" as a coded message from its author to our masters on Robot Planet. Foundation and Empire Writer Humans are much concerned with the concepts of "winning" and "failing", as they are with such things as "civilization" and "barbarism" Psychohistory complacently imagines it can predict every large movement of the human kind; "The Mule" posits that such predictions are limited by the basic fact that they are entirely concerned with the human kind. It is an amusing thing to consider, this predictability and these repetitions. Even worse, a mysterious entity called the Mule has appeared with powers beyond anything humanly conceivable. Note: This plot outline for the seven novels follows the series' in-universe chronology, which is not the order of publication. The first part, The General, tells the tale of a very important man in the history of the Foundation. With a drive that's hyperspatial, through the parsecs you will race, you'll find that plotting is a breeze, With a tiny bit of cribbin' from Isaac Asimov based Foundation and Empire on Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire ; if you're in any doubt, consider the following lines from his well-known poem "The Foundation of SF Success": So success is not a mystery, just brush up on your history, and borrow day by day. However, the plan itself is reliant upon the cunning of individuals such as Salvor Hardin and Hober Mallow to make wise decisions that capitalize on the trends. Highly Recommended!! Taking off from where it is left in Foundation, this book can be divided in to two parts - Before Mule and After Mule. Existence of the Second Foundation, as an organization centered on the science of psychology and mentalics, in contrast to the Foundation's focus on physical sciences, is now known to the Darells and the Mule. Foundation as a series or an idea might deserve it, but Foundation and Empire is not particularly memorable or laudable, in my opinion. The dark age of the entire Milky Way has begun. Split into two stories instead of many like the first book, this one feels a lot more streamlined and the Foundation has met two of its greatest foes. At this point, the Empire has completely collapsed and the galaxy is divided into barbarian tribes vying for power. These books are now claimed by some [41] [42] to collectively be a " Second Foundation trilogy", although they are inserts into pre-existing prequels and some of the earlier Foundation storylines and not generally recognized as a new Trilogy. Well, he's just fascinating. That means there are fewer chronological leaps, and thankfully fewer characters to track. Published June 1st by Spectra Books first published Professor Asimov is generally considered one of the most prolific writers of all time, having written or edited more than books and an estimated 90, letters and postcards.     STAR WARS: THE FASCISM AWAKENS 7 Star Wars: The Fascism Awakens Representation and its Failure from the Weimar Republic to the Galactic Senate Chapman Rackaway University of West Georgia Whether in science fiction or the establishment of an earthly democracy, constitutional design matters especially in the realm of representation. Democracies, no matter how strong or fragile, can fail under the influence of a poorly constructed representation plan. Two strong examples of representational failure emerge from the post-WWI Weimar Republic and the Galactic Republic’s Senate from the Star Wars saga. Both legislatures featured a combination of overbroad representation without minimum thresholds for minor parties to be elected to the legislature and multiple non- citizen constituencies represented in the body. As a result both the Weimar Reichstag and the Galactic Senate fell prey to a power-hungry manipulating zealot who used the divisions within their legislature to accumulate power. As a result, both democracies failed and became tyrannical governments under despotic leaders who eventually would be removed but only after wars of massive casualties. Representation matters, and both the Weimer legislature and Galactic Senate show the problems in designing democratic governments to fairly represent diverse populations while simultaneously limiting the ability of fringe groups to emerge. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of representative democracies. Given the diversity of sci-fi genres, a researcher always deals either with the direct representation of the Other (a crea- ture different from an existing human being), or with its indirect, mediated form when the Other, in the original sense of this term, is revealed to the reader or viewer through the optics of some Other World. The article describes two modes of representing the Other by sci-fi literature, conventionally designated as scientist and anti-anthropic. Thescientist representa- tion constructs exclusively-rational premises for the relationship with the Other. Edmund Husserl’s concept of truth, which is the same for humans, non-humans, angels, and gods, can be considered as its historical and philosophical correlate. The anti-anthropic representa- tion, which is more attractive to sci-fi authors, has its origins in the experience of the “dis- enchantment” of the world characteristic of modern man, especially in the tragic feeling of incommensurability of a finite human existence and the infinity of the cosmic abysses.

It traces the origins of the genre, reviews critical reactions, and subsequently outlines the ways in which women’s cyberpunk altered genre conventions in order to advance specifically feminist points of view. Novels are examined within their historical contexts; their content is compared to broader trends and controversies within contemporary feminism, and their themes are revealed to be visible reflections of feminist discourse at the end of the twentieth century. The study will ultimately make a case for the treatment of feminist cyberpunk as a unique vehicle for the examination of contemporary women’s issues, and for the analysis of feminist science fiction as a complex source of political ideas.
